Paapa

A Tamil word with a sarcastic tinge, Paapa means Brahmin (the highest caste in Hinduisim).

There is a Tamil expression that says, when you see a Paapa and a snake, kill the Paapa first.

Starting with the rationalist movement led by EVR Ramaswami Naicker a.k.a Periyar, Tamil Nadu has been at the forefront of the anti-Brahmin movement.

However, over the last couple of decades, the anti-Brahminical movement has mellowed down in Tamil Nadu. Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK party leader Jayaram Jayalalitha is a Brahmin.
