Anil Ambani To Invest $1b in Indian Movies

Anil Ambani’s Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt Ltd is looking at investing $1 billion in its Indian movies business over the next three years, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Reliance Big Entertainment is involved in making movies, distribution and screening them.

Reliance Big Entertainment president Rajesh Sawhney told the WSJ that the investments would flow mainly into production and distribution.

Part of the investment will also go into the company’s Adlabs Films unit to double the number of screens it operates to 1,000 in 12 months.

Some of the crappiest movie theatres we’ve been to in the U.S. (for instance the stinking Movie City on Oak Tree Road in Edison (New Jersey) are part of Anil Ambani’s Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.

Despite the seemingly large sums of money going into the Indian movie business, most movies made in India – whether in Bollywood or Kollywood – are plain garbage.

Plagiarism of successful Hollywood movies is rampant in Bollywood and most big name stars like Abhishek Bachchan, Viveik Oberoi, Sanjay Dutt et al are utterly clueless about acting.
