Smile Pinki Wins Documentary Short Oscar

Smile Pinki (directed by Megan Mylan) has won the Best Documentary Short Oscar.

Set in India, the documentary focuses on Pinki, a poor five-year-old rural Indian girl with cleft lip.

Bravo, Pinki.

    Perhaps this was the one unfortunate part of the Oscars for supporters in India. In any other year, this victory would have made a giant bang in the news in India. After Slumdog’s 8 gongs, Smile Pinki has gotten lost in the shuffle and most likely will go down with a whimper.
