Prabhakaran Prolongs Tamils’ Agony; Sri Lanka Faces Flood of Misery After May 13

If you think the current bloodbath in Sri Lanka is bad, it could get worse.

A lot worse.

Blaming both the LTTE and the Sri Lankan government for the bloodbath, Amnesty International has warned that the bad situation could get worse after the conclusion of the May 13 elections in India (the neighboring south Indian state of Tamil Nadu goes to the polls on Wednesday in the final round of India’s Parliamentary elections).

Here’s what Amnesty International’s Asia-Pacific director Sam Zarifi had to say:

There are real fears that the “bloodbath” will turn into a flood of misery after 13 May. The Security Council must act on its responsibility to protect the civilians in Sri Lanka before hundreds more are killed and wounded by the two sides or succumb to malnutrition and disease.

Prabhakaran – Blood Thirsty
One of the main reasons the end-game in the Sri Lankan Army’s war against the LTTE terrorists is being prolonged is because the brutal LTTE terrorist leader Prabhakaran is using the 50,000 Tamils caught in the war zone as a human shield and refuses to let them flee to safe zones.

Independent media reports have confirmed that the LTTE is firing on the Tamils desperate enough to attempt to flee the war zone.

the “Independent media reports” is actually speaks about the government’s airstrikes in the NFZ.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

The same video at 1:58 minutes speaks about LTTE firing on civilians to prevent their escape to safe territory.

how the situation keeps changing ….play with numbers …

first SL said number of civilians were close to lakh or so ….this was a attempt to downplay the enormity of the situation ….

then came a satellite image released by the same govt which showed lakhs fleeing from LTTE held areas to Govt areas ….now they are in concentration camps begging for food …suffering from malnutrition …..

But still tens and thousands are held captive by the LTTE ???? ….

Independant sources actually dont exists because press is allowed ….recently Channel Four Journalist reported the following —

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Your first link is a one-sided opinion piece.

The other pieces do not touch upon the 50,000 Tamil civilians caught in the war zone.

How is it that Channel 4 becomes an independent source that you repeatedly mention it (all your above four links touch upon Channel 4) but ignore the video link we provided (originally from SI reader Boopalanj).

Pick the facts you like and hope the remaining damning facts go away. Is this your modus operandi to arrive at the ‘truth.’

[trash talk]….u could have written the cruelty of sl army and they should stop war..rather u focused defaming ltte. poor souls need to be saved, just don’t write to get hits…poi prabaakaraan [trash talk]

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write: u could have written the cruelty of sl army

All parties in a war are cruel.

Let’s never forget Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination at the hands of LTTE terrorists.

  4. IAmAnIdiot   May 12, 2009 at 5:10 pm

u r repeatedly talking like a stupid, by rajiv’s killing. we r not justify that, may a mistake from pulis. do u know what rajiv did to sl tamil through ipklf…rape, murder etc. still sl army killing civilians is not ethical. u can look this problem in one own stupid view only.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

LTTE’s attack on Indian soil and murder of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was an attack against all Indians.

Let Prabhakaran surrender first and it’d be nice if the LTTE stops firing on Tamils.

  5. yourmate   May 12, 2009 at 5:50 pm

Actually Rajiv and the Gandhi Family should thank LTTE. Rajiv became a martyr after his assassination otherwise what would have happened is something one can only guess (He was facing a lot of political turmoil and his party was also performing very badly. He was named as a conspirator of the sikh riots of 1984, he was also named in bofors scandal etc. but got absolved from all these after his death).

The major problem with LTTE is they never accepted India to mediate in anyway. They never wanted the IPKLF (AS it was not their idea) and saw them as a enemy. By killing Rajiv they made sure there is no intervention from India. There were other opportunities that came the way of both SL and LTTE in the form Norway. But both the parties were not concerned about the civilians. Prabhkaran and Chandrika Kumaratunga (I think the same would hold good for Mahinda too) were fighting alone with their family safely ensconced in London and US. The SL army showed pictures of LTTE chief, can they show pictures of their leaders living in luxury where their soldiers fight. Whether it is LTTE or the SL army the person who suffers the plight is the foot soldiers and the civilians who get caught. I remember a small story. Once a crow was sitting idle on top of tree, a rabbit which was passing by saw this and asked the crow can I also sit idle like you and the crow said why not. A Vulture came to catch the crow, but couldn’t as the Crow flew away, but it could capture the idling Rabbit. Moral of the story is When you are on top you are always safe

The plight of the lakhs of people is something pathetic. Once the elections in TN is over none of the parties would be interested in SL tamils. They would be very busy with their negotiations on who is getting what portfolio and how much money would exchange hands for the horse trading.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write: By killing Rajiv they made sure there is no intervention from India

We doubt India is sitting on the sidelines. Our RAW and military folks must surely be up to some mischief even now in Sri Lanka.

Notwithstanding what people say for public consumption, we think the Congress party must be trying to avenge their leader Rajiv’s death.

    2. As for Bofors, we doubt Rajiv Gandhi would have paid a personal price. Political corruption in India seldom extracts a toll on the politicians.

On the Sikh riots of 1984, it’s again hard to conceive Rajiv Gandhi paying a personal price. People continue to get a free chit over their alleged involvement in the anti-Sikh riots.

“We doubt India is sitting on the sidelines. Our RAW and military folks must surely be up to some mischief even now in Sri Lanka.”

India and Pakistan used to supply SL with Technology (In fact there is also a joke that radars supplied by these countries were the main culprit for not tracking LTTE air crafts). The main defense partner/supplier and trading partner is now China. That is one reason why India does not have much say on SL affairs any more. There is also a rumor that China is helping SL to build a Port (Which would also act as a surrogate naval base for china) in Northern SL near Jaffna peninsula which is one reason why the SL army has mounted on the offensive against LTTE in the last 6 months. Commercially the port would be a extremely profitable one as it would control all the flow of traffic to South Asia and South East Asia.

Btw, today is the election day.. Let’s see how many of Tamil politicians here continue to mourn Srilankan Tamils and how many would still vow for a Tamil Eelam.. They will most likely forget Srilanka after May 16 – the results day and get themselves involved in post-poll alliances and arithmetics..

I think YOURMATE is right. I also read it somewhere but I cannot locate it where. But, there’s other info relating to the same subject of China, Russia having a hand in the SL issue, check the following link:

Are China and Russia capable of saving SL at UN?

Trincomalee [Tirikonamalai], a natural harbour, which is a base for Srilankan naval & air force , is the place where China is said to have its eyes on.

Unlike other harbours it seems to have some specialities [which I dont know], and any Anti-India nation can target almost any place in South India by placing a missile from here. Along with China [Which had relations with SL and South India from ancient times], Pakistan is the new ally for weapon and other trades.

China and Russia were the nations those vetoed the resolution by UN to bring the war to a halt and initiate actions on Srilanka.

There is a survey going in here, by CNN – Should the international community intervene in Srilanka?

Go through the comments too, before you choose to vote.

    http://internationaldesk.blogs.cnn.com/2009/05/11/monday-poll/

[Volume of the comments is amazing, and they say they had to disable comments to stop it from ever increasing.]

Claiming to be a Srilankan, one person’s comment goes on like this: [Sandeep E]

“We can not get in to a bus without having the doubt will I ever get out of it alive. The reason is not because our drivers are very careless. It is because one of the passengers could be a Black Tiger (LTTE Suicide Force) planning on carrying out an attack on the civilian lives here in south..”

    Can we deny?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. Found this comment by ‘H’ interesting:

    Gentlemen,

    H May 12th, 2009 651 GMT

While the Sri Lankan government is hardly angelic and the Tamil minority has many valid, serious grievances, I doubt this is the sensible way to go about addressing them:

    1. Suicide bombing
    2. Recruitment of child soldiers (one from each family on average)
    3. Drug trafficking and extortion within the Tamil Diaspora as a means of fundraising
    4. Systematic elimination of rival Tamil groups and moderate Tamil leaders critical of the rebels
    5. Re-arming during negotiation periods, and more recently,
    6. Holding civilians in a war zone against their will.

International intervention should have been called for many years ago – in order to help establish a powerful civil rights movement. Instead a militant group was formed. Extremists among the Sinhalese are a very vocal and powerful group, but are by no means the majority. If it were not for the Tamil Tigers, moderates would have had an easier time defeating the extremists. Alas, it was not to be.

    2. We voted No to intervention.

Channel 4 is not a party to the conflict and hence its an independent source ….your links lead straight to the Sri lankan army websites and others who have just replicated the same material at diff places …..which obviously is nothing but propaganda ….

The link we provided (originally from Boopalanj) was not a propaganda site.
