Aadhavan Box Office – Less than Kuruvi, More than Billa

Bad but not that bad.

That’s how we’d describe the U.K. box office performance of Surya’s latest piece of junk Aadhavan.

Jayam Ravi’s Peranmai has drowned, caught in the Aadhavan deluge.

So, Dasa is on top of the list.

BTW, has anybody seen “This is it”?

It’s already released in Abu Dhabi. I’m hoping to see it this week.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

This is It is releasing in the U.S. on Oct 28.

  2. arshad2   October 21, 2009 at 10:18 am

U r a surya fan SI πŸ˜€ , for kandaswamy u gave title differently “worse than kurvi” why can’t u give the same for aadhaavn “worse than kandaswamy “?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. We are no one’s fan here.

    2. You write: U r a surya fan SI

Tell that to Surya. Even he won’t believe it. πŸ˜‰

to be honest, not that bad considering it only had 2 days wkend, whereas the rest of those movies had 3 days..

and im really surprised with the outcome of Peranmai, it was shown in twice the amount of theatres as Santhosh Subramaniyam, but only managed to get £6031 (nearly half of Santhosh Subramaniyam)…

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Didn’t Aadhavan release in UK on Friday?

  4. trishna147   October 21, 2009 at 12:12 pm

woops, my bad…it DID release on friday…

Did the Aadhavan folks provide free Chicken Biryani to these pavam-looking creatures (the way everyone kept saying super)? πŸ˜‰

Hey SI, may it’s SUPPER they are mispronouncing as soooperrr.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Boneless?

  6. shuaib68   October 21, 2009 at 12:38 pm

Sorry, This is it is releasing on 28th. Tickets are available now.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Maybe, we’ll also see it.

  7. shuaib68   October 21, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Sorry again for repeating the comment. What happened was when I was submitting the comment it showed an error.

    Boneless???

Yeah maybe. That’s why the words are easily slipping out from their mouth. They do this to please the camera guy/or the TV guy who out there to get the comments. It’s normal. Even for a worst movie by their standards is given Sooperrr compliment.

  8. arshad2   October 21, 2009 at 1:35 pm

In tamilnadu most of them says the film is super, confirm 100 days blah blah when asked by a media or channels ;D

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write: In tamilnadu most of them says the film is super

They must be eating Kaakha Biryani in Tamil Nadu. πŸ˜‰

SI: Did the Aadhavan folks provide free Chicken Biryani to these pavam-looking creatures (the way everyone kept saying super)?

Hey SI, maybe it’s supper mispelt as soooperrrr.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

We have a feeling Vijay himself will come and serve Mutton Biryani for Velaikaran oops Vettaikaran. πŸ˜‰

  11. SRINIVAS   October 24, 2009 at 12:16 am

    collection in india

    http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/51020.html

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. None of them give BO collections the way we do…which makes for easy comparison.

    2. Your link (above) mentions that ‘distributors feel that there is a bright probability for PeranmaiΓ’ to push Aadhavan back.’

Not a good sign considering Jayam Ravi is nowhere in the Surya category of stars.

  12. maravan   October 25, 2009 at 2:47 am

so do u think peranmai will overtake aadhavan in coming weeks?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

We have no clue whether Peranmai will overtake Aadhavan but our crystal ball tells us that at the current rate Simbhu, Vombhu, Kombhu, Tumbhu et al will overtake Sori-Padam Surya.

  13. maravan   October 28, 2009 at 8:42 am

since this is 2nd week of the release, can SI declare about diwali movies status? hit or flop? or how about collection?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

The Hindi movies seem to have done badly, going by U.S. or UK box office numbers with Main Aurr Mrs.Khanna being the worst. The big-budget Blue seems to be seeing the blues.

As for Sori-Padam Surya’s Aadhavan, we haven’t come across numbers for U.S and India.

We’d be surprised if this shit movie turns out a hit movie.

  14. shivbits   October 31, 2009 at 11:11 pm

can u publish reports for Box Office based on NOT just the UK numbers!?
The UK collections are hardly indicative of what the average Tamilian thinks about a movie!

You can always take UK collections and say that a good movie like ‘Santhosh Subramanian’ sucked at the BO!
    hardly makes sense!

and i hardly find good reviews for tamil movies on this site!

It seems to be sensational journalism based on lambasting movies & fancy review titles.

You shud watch the smaller budget great movies that Tamil filmdom churns out regularly, to keep the content balanced!

    Peace!

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write: and i hardly find good reviews for tamil movies on this site

And we hardly find good Tamil movies on this planet.

BTW, what planet do you live on?

    2. You write: It seems to be sensational journalism based on lambasting movies & fancy review titles.

    a) RuPISS (rubbish is too mild an expletive to describe the drivel you write).

We guess in the Cooum settlement you hail from an English language review of a Tamil film without 25 grammatical errors and 65 spelling mistakes would be considered sensationalism, eh.

You are a blithering idiot. If we really wanted to be sensationalistic, we’d have pasted a few dozen pictures of skimpily clad starlets. SI is one of the rare film sites that’s eschewed the puerile appeal of semi-nude images for the purity of plain text.

    b) And what the f*ck is wrong with lambasting a bad movie, kiddo.

Or are you part of the film fraternity that gets irked by critical reviews.

Schmuck, remember most people pay hard-earned $$ to watch movies. They deserve to get value for their money. Not this trashy piece of shit a.k.a Aadhavan.

    c) Most stars are lazy and do not bother to put in the minimal effort necessary to ensure a quality product. Take for instance Surya. After so many years in the ‘acting’ business, Surya still can’t dance without making a monkey of himself. In our dictionary, such lazy behavior constitutes cheating the audience.

    3. You write: can u publish reports for Box Office based on NOT just the UK numbers!? The UK collections are hardly indicative of what the average Tamilian thinks about a movie!

Our goal at SI is to put out credible numbers.

Since we are very skeptical of the box office numbers coming from India, we seldom use it. In our not-so-humble-opinion, the Indian media is too cozy and seems to have an incestuous relationship with the film industry.

So we go with the the numbers that we find reliable.

BTW, is the UK Tamil really very different from the Tamil in India or the Tamil in the U.S?

    4. You write: You shud watch the smaller budget great movies that Tamil filmdom churns out regularly, to keep the content balanced!

We watch the Tamil movies that are available in the U.S. (those that release in the theatres here or the ones stocked by Netflix). Many of these ‘smaller budget great movies’ don’t release on the East Coast.

If you are using regularly as a synonym for frequently, it’s time you got rid of the dickionary that’s your vade mecum and started consulting a regular dictionary.

Peace (whatever that shit means these days).

hi SI..how to verdict the movie hit or not?check this links..

    http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-4/top-ten-movies/tamil-cinema-topten-movie-aadhavan.html

    http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-slide-shows/movie-4/top-ten-movies-sep-07/tamil-cinema-topten-movie-kanthaswamy.html

its show total collection for both kanthasamy n aadhavan in chennai…as we saw kanthasamy collected more than aadhavan..but aadhavan verdict as hit n kanthasamy is average..source’s said aadhavan is big budget movie for surya n was sold for record price…but even both film cross 3 crore (kanthasamy better collection 3.86 crore) only aadhava verdict hit..film like kuruvi n aegan also verdict average even d collection more than 3 crore..

i have no clue how they verdict the movies?!!

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Interesting point.

Maybe, Kanthasamy cost more money to make. If Kanthasamy cost much more vis-a-vis Aadhavan, then it would be fair to describe the verdict as ‘average’ despite higher box office collections.

Or is this because of Surya’s strong statements against the media recently after the Dinamalar incident.

You see, in Incredible India things often work in a topsy-turvy manner. πŸ˜‰

  16. Vetti Jijaji   November 2, 2009 at 3:30 pm

Link to “SuryaÒ€ℒs strong statements against the media recently” seems to be incredible.. err.. incorrect.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Fixed. Thanks.

  17. arshad2   November 14, 2009 at 3:47 am

kandaswamy budget was around 35cr to 40 cr and it collected 5.28cr in chennai bo but behindwoods termned it as an average ( dubakoorwoods)

aadhavan budget is 30 cr but collections are very less than kandaswamy but within a week these dubakoorwoods termed it as a hit .Behindwoods is biased for surya this is not the first time they are doing it .

Surya’s vel colleted 2.11 cr in chennai box office , these same dubakoorwoods termed it as a super hit πŸ˜€ and bheema collected 2.49cr but they termed it as a average :X

I never really care for these dubakorrwoods verdict. They are biased to a particular set of actors.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. This clown Surya went and did some chatting there the other day, obviously in an effort to provide oxygen to Aadhavan.

Wish the bozo would spent some time learning acting in the same time instead of farting around.

    2. That said, let’s be clear Kanthasamy was a piece of shit unworthy of being released in theaters.

This excerpt of our review sums up our experience:

A wretched melange of an asinine story, shoddy acting and mediocre music, Kanthaswamy is a mind-numbing piece of trash that left us shell-shocked and reeling in horror at the infernal nonsense unfolding on the screen

  18. kayjay   December 24, 2012 at 8:35 am

SI can only be labelled as rude, obnoxious and downright lunatic for calling an award winning and talented Surya a clown.

I am very sure none of u boneheads can hold a candle to Surya.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

If Surya is an inferno of talent, it’s a closely guarded secret known only to Surya and a bunch of clueless retards!
