Official U.S. unemployment rose to 10.2%, a 26-year high as the Obama administration keeps dicking around with baby-steps to help the middle class but never hesitates in taking giant steps when it comes to helping Wall Street (by the way, one of Obama’s biggest backers).
As a first step, let’s start packing off the several hundred thousand H1B Coolies living here and bring back the several hundred thousand jobs outsourced to the Coolies in India.

That should help alleviate the situation here to some extent.
Sending the Coolies home should also help our desi travel agents and the struggling airlines.
Sure, we can’t do that overnight but if we start now we should make considerable headway in 12-18 months.
Alternatively, impose additional taxes on the H1B employees and the companies that hire them.
Folks, we’ve said this a million times – Free trade, free movement of labor and outsourcing are all fine and dandy when you are the beneficiaries like the Indians or the Chinese.
But today, millions of Americans have lost their jobs, lost their incomes, lost their homes and lost their self-confidence.
It’s time to say stop.
Yes, we can.
Unemployment is not due to the Coolies or the Yellow Monkeys, Buddy, its due to the fact that the Auto Industry in US is so fucked up, keeps on rolling out inefficient Gas Guzzling SUV’s, while auto makers from Korea, Japan, make better cars.
You can kick out all the Coolies and Monkeys, but face it the Manufacturing Sector in US right now is in ICU. Be it Iron & Steel, Auto, Power US Companies figure nowhere in the Top 10 List,so even if you kick out all the Immigrants, Stop Outsourcing, it won’t make a fucking difference.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. On several occasions, we’ve called for an expanded, improved, cheaper public transportation system here (not that anyone’s paying attention).
2. If we kick out the Coolies and bring back the jobs done by the Coolies in India and China, that’s several hundred thousand jobs. Nothing to sniff at, kiddo.
Next step, impose tariffs on foreign goods to give a boost to local manufacturing.
Cost (i.e. cheap labor, whether by the Indian Coolies or the Chinese Yellow Monkeys) is the main reason for outsourcing and the disappearance of manufacturing in the U.S.

“But today, millions of Americans have lost their jobs, lost their incomes, lost their homes and lost their self-confidence.”
Majority of them lie in the Rust Belt, Detroit, where most of the Auto Factories, Steel Mills are shut Down. So Why did they end up in such a screwed up position. Why is that Japanese & Korean firms have been able to whoop the arse of the US Auto, Steel industry? Why is it that Euro car makers are beating out the Big 3? Why is it that when it comes to Consumer Electronics, its either Japanese( Sony), Korean( Samsung, LG) or Euro (Philips) but not one single American Company? Don’t tell me all this is due to Outsourcing.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. The job losses are not just in the midwest but all over the country.
As this table shows, many states with 8% plus unemployment rate are outside the Rust Belt.
2. Agreed, the U.S. dropped the ball on the auto and consumer electronics industries in the 1960s and 1970s. But to expect this generation to pay for the sins of their forefathers doesn’t make sense. Sure, we made a mistake in the past. So let’s fix it now.
Still, labor costs in Asia are so low that U.S. workers with their higher standard of living based salaries can’t compete on cost.
3. Outsourcing has exacerbated the problem. no question about it.

Ok sure impose Tariff’s on foreign goods, but will that ensure the Big 3 come out with better Automobiles, instead of those gas guzzling, polluting SUV’s.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
The U.S. auto industry is fuc*ed beyond repair.
We should jettison that: GM is living on our bailed-out taxpayer billions, Chrysler is in ICU and Ford is limping along.
Time we jettisoned our auto industry and plunked our resources on public transportation.
Move the auto workers to making high-speed trains, coaches, rails et al and supporting that infrastructure.

Also the 8 years of Bush Rule, have screwed up the US education system like never before.
I have friends of mine, working as Professors in Universities, who have complained about Research Grants being cut. And of course when you had a President who tries to promote “Intelligent Design” and Charlatans like Deepak Chopra as “Intellectuals”, one can guess the extent to which US was dumbed down during Bushie Boy’s rule. It sure will take some time for the US to come back on track, Bush in his 8 yrs has done what Osama could never do, “Screw up America”.

Well that’s going to be there, as long as the Dollar and Euro have a higher exchange rate vis a vis other currencies. Again not an economist here, so really have no idea about the solution to this.

I myself am one of those Coolies, but i sure would love to see a US, which I Idolized, a country, where enterprise, innovation, hard work had it’s rewards. Not a nation where crooks play around with public Money.
I for one would be more than happy, if outsourcing indeed was reduced. Most of the Indian IT companies, make money doing “Cut-Paste-Copy” work, and pay an Insane amount of money to many who don’t deserve it, I say this being an IT coolie myself. I would rather prefer Indian IT companies, coming up with more indigenous solutions, catering to the Indian market, instead of just depending on crumbs.

1. You write: i sure would love to see a US, which I Idolized, a country, where enterprise, innovation, hard work had it’s rewards. Not a nation where crooks play around with public Money
Crooks playing with public money is not an unique U.S. tradition. As your former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi once said, corruption is a universal phenomenon.
2. As we’ve said earlier, outsourcing is not the sole cause of our problems and an end to it will not be the panacea to all our ailments. But a good first step, definitely.

“Time we jettisoned our auto industry and plunked our resources on public transportation.”
I agree, the public transportation system sucks in US, this when much more poorer Latin American nations like Brazil, Colombia are coming up with more efficient public transport.
I was in S.Korea for a year, and trust not one did i felt, the lack of having a car. That country has such a fantastic public transportation system, you can go from any place to any place, either through bus or train.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
You write: I was in S.Korea for a year, and trust not one did i felt, the lack of having a car.
In most parts of the country, families are forced to have a minimum of 2 or three cars. Sad.
Public transportation is decent in Europe too. At least, some of the ones we’ve seen like Holland, Switzerland et al.

@SI: “Official U.S. unemployment rose to 10.2%”
Unofficially it’s way higher. 10.2% only represents the number of people registered to collect unemployment benefits. It does not include someone like myself, who has not had a job since graduating university nearly two years ago, because I needed to have a job beforehand which would have contributed to unemployment payments that I could potentially draw on. I found out when I paid my taxes this past year that I couldn’t get unemployment because I had not made at least $5,000 in work over the previous 12 months.
How many other people are in that position?
Also, there are people who are working as waiters, in bars, cashiers at supermarkets etc. who are doing it part-time to try and survive, but are also not taken into account in the unemployment figures, even though they can’t get the full-time work they desire.
The nonsense that has been put out by the media in recent weeks about the recession showing signs of coming to an end and some ridiculous figures (which have since been proven to be lies through some outstanding reporting by Fox News) claiming jobs created or saved through the stimulus package has been proven to be just that, nonsense.
It’s a year later, but the chosen one is still blaming Bush for everything he promised in his campaign and hasn’t been able to follow through on. No he can’t.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. You write: Unofficially it’s way higher. 10.2% only represents the number of people…
You are right on the real (unofficial) unemployment figures being much higher.
In an earlier post, we said the real unemployment rate (as per Atlanta Fed officials) was 16%.
2. When a blithering idiot like Joe Biden talks about the jobs being created/saved by the stimulus package, you can be sure it’s all baloney.
And the cash-for-clunker nonsense was Obama’s ‘Thank You’ to the Auto Unions for supporting him during the elections.
3. Just you watch, it won’t be long before people here start selling their body organs like kidneys et al like they do in Coolistan a.k.a. Hindustan.

Moving of jobs from a higher cost to lower cost is a fact, that is happening from ages. To reduce the impact of these job losses any country will have to invest in training its work force.
Do you think if America would have contnued outsourcing , had it not benefitted from it?. I read an intersting case study
on outsourcing some time back. Indian IT, ITES industries growth was hugely attributed to flow of American Dollars,
This growth in turn created a boomrang effect on Indian middle class, whose spending increased by leaps and bounds.
One such effect of this spending was the Indian airlines industry which was not so long ago was ruled by Air India, a government
owned airlines. This is completely changes now with dozens of private players donning the indian skies.
The industry is growing (except this global recession)) and suddendly this resulted in lot of orders for
American airlines manufacturing industry which was otherwise breathing its last breath.
Indian IT companies are also helping out the American companies to cut down costs and be more robust in global marketplace
I ask all those who are proposing to send those ‘collies’ back.. how can you ensure that a job will be created
for each H1B collie sent back to India. Companies will cut cost and put pressure on the current workforce to absorb that
work or even outsource the job to India / China / Asia.
Well the collie mindset of writers of this blog needs an overall and they can get it done cheaply in India.
INDIA is an idea whose time has come and it cannot be erased any more.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. You write: INDIA is an idea whose time has come and it cannot be erased any more.
Not in our or your lifetime.
Only some pockets of India are benefiting from the IT, outsourcing boom. Even that will get affected as we impose protectionist measures eventually.
Rural India continues to be in bad shape. Otherwise the Maoist movement wouldn’t have spread to 22 states in India.
Come back to us when starvation deaths stop in India and majority of the people have a loo.
2. You write: To reduce the impact of these job losses any country will have to invest in training its work force.
Train Americans to do what?
You talk like the stupid American politicians who blithely talk of preparing people here for 21st century jobs without any specifics.
3. Our aircraft industry is growing more because of the defense business and less from commercial aviation orders.
4. You write: Companies will cut cost….or even outsource the job to India / China / Asia.
As we’ve clearly said in the post, we need to do both: send the Coolies home (India) and get the jobs outsourced to the Coolies back home (U.S).
Alternatively, let’s impose higher taxes on corporations that outsource jobs as well as higher taxes on the H1B workers.

Your article should be blaming yellow monkeys more than Coolies. of course coolies come 2nd in the list.
USA is literally ‘Made in china’. The foundation for unemployment in USA was laid in 70′s itself when all the manufacturing units and jobs started going to china.
Millions of jobs are gone due to that. compared to that meagre few thousand job loss due to H1B coolies is very less.
But this is a country with big heart which accepts people from all over the world.
Imagine if biharis started migrating to our TN and take jobs in chennai and start speaking in hindi. The kind of riots and violence it will create.

1. You write: Imagine if biharis started migrating to our TN and take jobs in chennai and start speaking in hindi. The kind of riots and violence it will create.
This news item just appeared today in all Indian newspapers: MP CM says jobs must go to locals not Biharis
2. Outsourcing of American manufacturing jobs whether to China/Japan/Taiwan/Southeast Asia in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s or the shipping of service sector jobs to India in the 1990s and later is very detrimental to our country (U.S.).
Eventually, it’ll pauperize the U.S. How long can you keep selling each other cars and homes? In any case, both auto and housing sectors have collapsed too.
3. When industrial jobs left the U.S., we consoled ourselves stating that we still had all the service sector jobs.
But when the best service sector jobs too go East, what else is left but McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Denny’s, Pathmark, Shoprite, Domino’s….

we should strongly write to representative and senator to stop immigrants taking away citizen jobs.
i know top 10 banks and fortune 79 companies out of 100 have already outsourced (For ex: Amex to Infosys – around 200 coolies in phoenix, Citibank to Wipro, iflex, infosys- around 100 coolies in L1 and H1 visas in NY, JP Morgan to Iflex and all indian IT companies – 400 coolies in Ohio and NY, Glaxo to TechMahindra – 100 coolies in NC)…
already enough damage is done when senators were sleeping in capitol. how to bring these jobs back…well its a tough question. only solution is to collect data and present to Dept of Labour, etc

Yeah, send the coolies home, send the bloody coolies home, let them realize what they have really done, reduced the quality of life for the poor in India, hiked the prices of every-day materials with their shitty spending and made the rich businessmen richer!!!!
Send the Coolies home, we’ll see how much America improves when you shunt us out!
First of all, send your stupid Indo-Americans like Vikram Pandit and other idiotic Indo-American (Oops American) entrepreneurs to Jail. If US is in a crappy state, it is not only due to us coolies, but also due to shitty Americans (Who were once Indians).
Be careful for what you wish for! Once Americans finish sending us, Coolies back home, their next target would be those who settled in America(means people like you).
After all, wasn’t America the same country where the whites killed the natives and let their race flourish.
Obama or no Obama, your country is going to the dogs because of its own people. Stop spending lavishly on your unlimited credit cards, and start a habit called “spending prudently”.
SearchIndia.com Responds:

More than anything else, our political system needs urgent reform because lobbyists of the big corporations are able to influence legislation in their favor through campaign contributions.

True, reckless spending on unaffordable cruises or McMansions on credit cards, refinancing, ARM mortgages et al has also played a role.

And I would say you are even worse than the H1B coolies.. They atleast leave US in a few years(after their project or visa is over)..But people like you leech US throughout your life..If at all someone should be kicked out it should be you..Not the people you call as coolies(bcoz they will be leaving US sooner or later)..So stop writing such shitty articles and start doing something worthwhile..

Thats what i don understand..The objective of both you and coolies is to work here and earn in dollars..So you are equally contributing to the unemployment in US as coolies..Now if you think kickin out coolies will create more job opportunities for US citizens then will not kicking out ppl like you create the same impact as kickin out coolies..I mean both you and coolie don belong here but to india..So y do u particularly attack coolies ?? you should attack all the immigrants..

SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. Let’s see: Some folks are born stupid, others achieve stupidity and a few have stupidity thrust on them. Guess, you have the dubious distinction of realizing stupidity on all three fronts.
What is the point we’ve been trying to drive home. A very simple one, one that’s clear and logical and one that even a schmuck like you would have grasped if you had not gone off on an ad hominem tangential rant against us instead of focusing on the issue.
Our point: When the U.S. faces official unemployment figures of 10.2% and unofficial/real unemployment of 17+%, it makes no sense to hire H1B Coolies here (in the U.S.) or outsource work to Coolies back home (i.e. India).
2. Hiring Coolies for your Y2K project or Amigos/Amigas to clear your yard or kitchen is fine and dandy when you have full employment here.
But immigration is not fine when the locals are in a dire state facing considerable hardship. This holds good of any nation, be it the U.S. or other immigration magnets like Western Europe.
What part of the above sane arguments do you find hard to comprehend?

Doesn’t it strike you that it’s also about the work? According to a study Indian immigrants are the most to while away the time at work (I should have given the link, anyway google it, it should be somewhere).
and how many of you coolies have ever thought about the made in china items that we find dime a dozen piled up on our platforms. Have you ever thought why we are not able to produce cheap products that do last, and mostly paisa vasool.
Why are there no small industries that do produce such things those small electronic items, those cuddly dolls you buy your kids, those pencils and the sharpeners, even the bags..
I can ask more questions than be answered by any of you, and you will never understand SearchIndia, until you get the answers to these questions.
Anyway how many of you have not dreamed of settling in the US?. How many of you really want to develop India? I’m not asking you to work in the remote village PHC. BTW do you know the meaning of a PHC.
How many of you really deserve the salary or the position you enjoy. Not many, is it?.
If you want to know who I am to say things against coolies, I can say, I have a job that is so similar to that of coolies that I can be mistaken for one, I’ve tried to be a Coolie at one time. I’ve tried to make a difference and will try once more and more times to make a difference.

@ratnakar
“Most of the Indian IT companies, make money doing “Cut-Paste-Copy†work, and pay an Insane amount of money to many who don’t deserve it”
“Insane amount of money?”
Indian IT Engineers get paid the same or lesser amount than the American counterparts.
So when you talk about American counterparts you say the same amount is “reasonable or just to make ends meet” and when it comes to Indians that money is “insane amount”? Thats double standards.
Indian IT workers living in US have the same work hours (if longer), same wages (sometimes lower) and the same tax schemes.
Indian IT workers working in India do get a salary which is larger by Indian living standards. But they put up extremely long working hours in support (IT or BPO) to get it.
They aren’t doing 9-5 jobs. I don’t think any american will work 20 hours a day for the salary that Indian IT engineers get.
The IT companies are outsourcing because there are people to commit for lesser wages and more work! Thats it.
@SI sir/madam
I know.. I know.. You will say Indian will also raise a hue and cry if our jobs are given to nations who can work on lower wages than us.
Now that can never happen.. because we are in the enviable position that there are not many countries with our “educated people strength” and lower than our living standards who can commit to lower wages than India.

Just you wait. It’s not a question of if but when.
The Yellow Monkeys are going to set your tail on fire sooner or later.
They’ve already made the rounds of the Indian IT firms to understand how they function and it’ll probably be just a question of time before the Yellow Monkeys start under-bidding the Coolies for large IT/BPO contracts.
In a few years, when we call the 1-800 customer service number, instead of Meenakshi answering the phone and claiming to be Amanda, we’ll have a Chow Mein answering our call as Amanda.
2. You write: there are not many countries with our “educated people strength” and lower than our living standards.
a) We disagree with the former part of your above sentence but concede the latter.
b) Indians have degrees but are not educated.
Indians are still a barbaric lot, slowly evolving toward the category called peoples.
Indians are most definitely not strong, literally or figuratively. They are pussies. Throughout history, they’ve more often than not been at the receiving end.
c) On low living standards, sure it’s hard to beat these cheapos. Eight people living in an apartment meant for two, sleeping on newspapers, rummaging through the trash on the curb left by the Americans and taking the broken TVs, discarded microwaves home, stealing Internet access and satellite TV, three desis ordering one entree at an Indian restaurant, ad nauseum ad inifinitum. If they’re like that here, they can’t be very different back home.

Well I don’t think the Chinese invasion of S/W jobs will happen in near future, primarily because of exchange rate of 1 RMB = approx 7 Rupees, we will always be able to match however low they go.
A starting salary of a Indian IT employee is around 14,000 Rupees (approximately 2000 RMB), while that of a chinese employee is around 7000 RMB.
)
So unless they are ready to work for pittance, we are safe!
(You need to be on a lot of networking sites to garner this information
For cheapness,
.. You do not see Indians saving money for Travel around the world or Vacation to Hawaii or Las Vegas.
I don’t think we are cheap by choice. We rather are cheap by circumstance. An average indian who comes to US in initial stages doesn’t come from a well-to-do family. He gets 5K $, 2-2.5 $ goes in Tax, house rent is approximately 1K,
If they are vegetarian eating outside is costly (and sometimes unhygienic). So we save rent by sharing, save food cost by cooking (or ordering only one dish), save furniture cost by dumpster diving…
so that we can achieve one of the primary objectives of coming to US.. that is “send some money home”
We are saving money so that we are able to buy via loan a nice flat/house for our parents, buy a car at home. The maximum pampering we do for ourselves is buy some branded jeans or any shirt, buy an ipod mini, an Xbox et.c
Now we have a sparrow like mentality to save whatever we can, however we can…So even at lower/equal wages than american counterparts we are forced to manage..
Its true we never see the big picture on how it affects economy or our American counterparts.. Thats because we DONT HAVE TIME FOR IT.. We are just working hard so that we can retire with some money on hands
and our sons/daugthers are well settled.
So I am not against SI for rallying for reduced outsourcing. You do what you think is right, while I check this blog in my tea break between 20 hour long shifts and post my opinion
Thanks,
The “Cool”ie

1. Nice arguments.
On China, we’ll see what happens in a few years.
History is replete with examples of how unanticipated variables can dramatically alter the status quo.
2. You write: Well I don’t think the Chinese invasion of S/W jobs will happen in near future,
While the Yellow Monkeys’ invasion of Indian S/W jobs may or may not happen in the near future it’s more than likely the Yellow Monkeys’ invasion of India will happen in the near future. And who knows what impact that will have.
3. Meanwhile, enjoy your 1-by-3 Baingan Bharta while you can.

I guess you would have seen this:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/11/world/middleeast/11blackwater.html
I saw an interview today on CNN of Suzanne Simons who wrote a book(Master of War:Blackwater) on Erik Prince, the chairman of Blackwater-now known as Xe services. She assured us that private contractors are here to stay and in fact there are currently more private contractors and their men in Iraq than there are US soldiers. Its a ‘good gig’ she said compared to being a soldier. It seems you earn a lot more and can come home quicker. ‘Nobody likes to go to war now-a-days’, she concluded.
When the history of fall of human civilisation is chronicled, I am reasonably sure this, as in Privatisation of war, will be a turning point.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
Yeah, we saw the Blackwater story yesterday.
The privatization or corporatization of War is a serious issue that unfortunately draws little attention.
This means the vast military-industrial complex, which employs tens of thousand, will forever have a vested interest in ongoing war.
Once you have tens of thousands of people employed in the armaments sector and whose livelihood depends on other people dying or getting maimed, do you think they’ll care who lives, who gets injured or who dies as long as they get their monthly salaries and year-end bonuses and stock options.
We think it’s very dangerous to human civilization in general and weaker people in smaller countries in particular because they’ll be cannon fodder. But since when have sane voices ever found an audience?
As if all this is not bad enough, some of the top Blackwater people were Christian fundamentalists. And you know how much the Christian fundamentalists love Muslims.
Recommend you read Gore Vidal’s essay The National Security State P.399-407 in The Selected Essays of Gore Vidal. It’s a fairly short essay and worth reading. Also in the same book, don’t miss the revealing chart at the end of the essay Black Tuesday p.428-449.

@SI: “Indians have degrees but are not educated.”
When indian coolies are stealing americal professional’s jobs with consistently providing quality product at a very cheaper cost, i think indians are educated enough.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
You write: When indian coolies are stealing americal (sic) professional’s jobs with consistently providing quality product….
1. You can talk about quality when you learn to spell
Americaloops American.2. You can talk about quality when you learn to use the apostrophe in the right place. In your above sentence, it should come after the ‘s’ in professionals.
3. You can talk about quality when you learn to write ‘while’ instead of ‘with’ in your above sentence.
4. You can talk about quality when you learn to write ‘products’ instead of ‘product’ in your above sentence.
5. You can talk about quality when you learn to [fill in the blanks]

well , thank you for correcting my English s.i, but you cant say u didn’t understand what i meant.
Why do you think that outsourcing to india is increasing?
( i don’t think its only due to cheap labour )
and don’t you think American employers are as cheapo as Desi’s by outsourcing jobs again and again.
SearchIndia.com Responds:
1. You write: Why do you think that outsourcing to india is increasing?
Corporate greed and eagerness to please the scumbags on Wall St are the primary reasons (made easier by their Republican benefactors).
This is now creating a vicious cycle here where Americans don’t want to study computer science because the jobs have gone to India, which makes it easy for corporations to justify H1Bs and outsourcing on the ground that there are not enough qualified people in the U.S.
Sad. Very sad.
2. You write: and don’t you think American employers are as cheapo as Desi’s by outsourcing jobs again and again.
By God, a lot of the big American corporations like IBM, HP, GE, Dell et al are cheapo mothafuckas.
