Quote of the Day – SearchIndia.com

By turns endearingly smiling, casually witty, unfailingly polite and menacingly violent, Waltz as Col Landa turns in one of the finest performances we’ve seen on the big screen in a long time.

SearchIndia.com in the review of Inglourious Basterds last year.

And guess what, folks.

Christoph Waltz won the Best Supporting Actor prize at the 82nd Annual Academy awards tonight.

Yippee.

Oscars is the new Filmfare awards.

In our not-so-humble opinion, same junk.

I watched last year’s Oscar ceremony hosted mainly by Hugh Jackman, and ably supported by others.
I found it fairly classy and humourous, with very few personal attacks.
And even when such ribbing happened, it was in good spirits.
This is one aspect where Bollywood awards are so crass, shameless and what not.
Shah Rukh and Saif have been hosts for a few times now for Filmfare awards, and continue to generate humour by berating others, rather than through some creative means.
The other irritating aspect of Filmfare et al is that as****es are nominated and genuine performers are systematically ignored.
Lastly, and shockingly, they would call useless folks like Ritesh Deshmukh and some other idiot to give away, say, best music director award to A.R.Rahaman.
Awards lose their sheen when they are given to, and given away by, undeserving folks, and trust me, in Filmfare, it happens most of the times.

Where else can a movie like Satya be passed over in favour of nonsense like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai for best film and best director award. Where else can a volcanic performance by Manoj Bajpai be ignored and the best supporting actor award be given away to non-actor Salman Khan. Only in Filmfare.

Naseeruddin Shah once famously said that one shouldnt bother about awards sponsored by some panmasala company (in refernece to Manikchand Filmfare awards), and he keeps out of it.
Amir Khan may well be an idiot, but has been staying away from all those awards for the past dozen-and-a-half years.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Indian movies, actors stars and awards are a joke.

    No one takes them seriously.

They’d be laughed off the stage/screen any place but Incredible India.

Satya was a lovely film that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Have you seen this movie called District 9 ?
It is a sort of documentary and movie, with a rather unconventional story and a powerful denouement. Was it there somewhere in Oscars ?
It is a strong (almost bordering on the impatient) request that you watch this movie and review it.
