Swaminarayan Mandir Sweets – What Gods Like Us Eat
To hell with Cholesterol issues.
To Hell with Diabetes.
To Hell with our readers.
It’s 5:30PM on the East Coast and the Gin and Soda are flowing down smoothly.
Accompanied by some of the finest Indian sweets and snacks we’ve tasted lately.
Swaminarayan Temple @ Cherry Hill, NJ
Some time back, we made a brief stop at the Swaminarayan Mandir in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Boy, it’s one of the best stops we’ve made in a long time.
Really.
Not since we stopped in our tracks on our way to watch a Trisha film (Khatta Meetha) and turned back have we stopped to greater pleasure in life.
Besides the blessings of a variety of Hindu Gods and Goddesses, the Swaminarayan Temple in Cherry Hill (not far from Rt73N) in New Jersey also peddles a choice of Indian sweets and snacks.
Throwing all health caution to the winds, we purchased nearly $30 worth sweets and snacks at the Swaminarayan Mandir, Cherry Hill, NJ.
Our sweets box ($12) contained the following: Kesar Pista Burfi, Cashew Burfi (Kaju Kathli), Almonds Pista Roll, Almonds Burfi, Anjeera with Almonds, Anjeera with Pistachios, Kesar, Pistachio, Cashew Burfi, Mohan Thal, Chikoo Burfi et al.
So far, we’ve tried Anjeera with Almonds, Kesar Pista Burfi, Cashew Burfi (Kaju Kathli), Chikoo Burfi, Anjeera with Pistachio stuffing, Anjeera with Almonds stuffing, Badam Pista Roll and Mohan Thal. All of them simply divine.
There’s even a Tri-Color (Indian-flag like) three-layered sweet with a pistachio layer sandwiched between cashew and kesar. Yummelicious.
Not dripping in ghee, not a surfeit or paucity of sugar, not in the least stale, the Swaminarayan Mandir sweets seem the epitome of perfection.
So fresh tasting and all with their distinct flavors.
We’re salivating at the mere thought of them.
Out of This World Karela Chips
If the Swaminarayan Mandir sweets are good, their snacks are even better.
Again, we tried different kinds including Plaintain Chips, Karela Chips and Bhakharwadi Mini.
Folks, we’ve got to tell you if there’s a tastier snack than the Swaminarayan Mandir’sa Karela Chips we’ve yet to hear of it. A spicy delight with the flavor of Karela, this one is straight from the heavens (figuratively speaking, schmuck). Tailor-Made as a fine snack to go with your evening drink. Just perfect.
The small Bhakharwadi Mini pieces are so good we’re surprised local Bars don’t stock them here. Bhakharwadi has a Kachori-like taste and the ingredients listed on the packet are Bengal Gram Flour, Canola Oil, sugar, sesame Seeds, Peanuts, Yogurt, Coconut Powder, Fennel Seeds, Spices et al.
Gosh, we almost forgot the rather uncommon Pistachio Chikki slab made out of jaggery and pistachio pieces. Deliiiiicious.
Swaminarayan Mandir – Delicious Snacks
Forget Sukhadia, Forget Rajbhog, Swaminarayan Mandir is Da Place
Being longtime residents in the area, we’ve, of course, tried sweets from Sukhadia and Rajbhog on several occasions. No, they can’t hold a candle to the Swaminarayan Mandir Sweets. Not even close.
Guys, we strongly recommend the sweets and snacks from Swaminarayan Mandir Cherry Hill (NJ).
If you go now during the busy pre-Diwali days, you are more likely to get fresh sweets (i.e. non-refrigerated stuff) given the heavy demand in the Hindu festival season.
By the way, the Swaminarayan Mandir in Cherry Hills also sells Toothpaste, Bath Soap and T-Shirts too. No kidding.
If our teeth sparkle whiter than ever before and our body odor attracts all the well-endowed local honey-bee cheerleaders then all thanks must go to to BAPS Amrut Herbal toothpaste (Fennel Seed flavor) and BAPS Amrut Neem Soap.
Hey, our Gin class is empty. Now, if you schmucks will excuse us we need to replenish it. Scram, now!
Caveat: Just because we enjoy and recommend Swaminarayan Mandir Sweets does not mean we endorse their Gods. As the wise folks at SearchIndia.com have said often, All Religions are Equally Stupid.
