We’re having our first proper snow this year today (had some flurries the other day but that doesn’t count).

Since it’s only December, we have to endure another three months of this nonsense.

As we get on in years and the grim reaper waits impatiently, it’s becoming increasingly hard to weather the cold weather.

The App Store revolutionized mobile apps. We hope to do the same for PC apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun. We can’t wait to get started on January 6
- Steve Jobs, Apple CEO.

Like the existing App store for the iPhone and iPod touch, the Mac App Store will feature paid and free apps in several categories including Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity and Utilities.

Consumers can buy, download and install apps in just one click and start using them immediately on their Mac OS X Snow Leopard based computers.

Apple plans to make Mac App Store available in 90 countries at launch.

But the $64,000 question is: will the Mac App store be anywhere near as popular as Apple’s Mobile App Store with consumers and developers?

We don’t think so.

Won’t Fly
In our not-so-humble view, the Mac App Store won’t fly, or at least won’t get anywhere remotely near the traction the App Store for iPhone/iPod touch has received in a short time because of heightened interest from both consumers and app developers.

The simple reason boils down to price. Continue reading »

Ever since we purchased the iPhone 4 with its 5-megapixel camera, we’ve been tempted to get rid of our Nikon DSLR, Canon S80 and a bunch of other cameras.

You see, the iPhone 4 takes pictures so good that unless you are a professional shooting models or other such high-end stuff you don’t any other cameras in your Lowepro bag.

Here are a couple of photos that we recently shot in New York City with the iPhone 4. By the way, the below photos are cropped and/or reduced in size.

You know the world has gone to hell in a handbasket when you learn that in the last 12 months our netizens sent 25 billion tweets (short messages of up to 140 characters).

As if that nonsense were not bad enough, Twitter, the four-year-old startup that lets the little (mostly) twits send all those tweets, today disclosed it’d raised another $200 million at a $3.7 billion valuation.

Silicon Valley VC outfit Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers led the latest round with $150 million.

By the way, does Twitter have a business model, one that’s been proven to work?

Is Twitter even profitable?

For what it’s worth, we too have a Twitter account here.

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a gazillion times – that creature Anushka Sharma is not Bollywood star material.

Maybe, an extra at the back of a crowd scene.

We’re reminded of what Stalin once told Lenin’s wife. In a fury, the Russian leader told Lenin’s wife that just because she used the same toilet as Lenin didn’t make her great. Similarly, just because a little twit acts with Shahrukh Khan doesn’t make her star material.

To make a movie with that Anushka thing is to invite disaster.

And that’s what we have at the U.S. box office with Band Baaja Baaraat. A Bada disaster, guys.

Why Yash Raj even released this film in theaters is a mystery. They should have just struck a deal with Patel Brothers and Apna Bazaar in NYC and NJ – Buy $10 worth grocery Grocery, get Band Baaja Baaraat DVD free. Or dumped it outside the desi grocery stores in Jackson Heights (NY) and on Oak Tree Road (NJ) like they do with the free Indian newspapers.

For the opening December 10-12, 2010 weekend, Band Baaja Baaraat grossed a puny $43,820 and had a gross average of $1,369.

Here’s how Band Baaja Baaraat fared at the U.S. box office compared to a few prominent Bollywood films:
