Man, the New Shah Rukh Khan App for the iPad is Good, Damn Good!

What’s an iPad without Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan adorning it!

With 140,000 dedicated apps for the iPad, how can there not be one celebrating India’s superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

Recent Launch

And so the inevitable happened on December 28, 2011.

A New Jersey company VP USA LLC put out a free application focused on the Bollywood superstar.

The app is available for both the iPad and the iPhone at the Apple AppStore.

The appropriately named Shah Rukh Khan app is a fine New Year gift to millions of fans of the Bollywood star, who’s fondly referred to as SRK or the Badshah (emperor) of Bollywood.

Shah Rukh Khan App on iPad Review by SearchIndia.com

Although we downloaded Shah Rukh Khan on both the iPad and iPhone, we played around mainly with the iPad version.

After all, a super star needs a bigger canvas than that provided by the small screen of a mobile phone.

Assuming that everyone in the Milky Way galaxy is already aware of Shah Rukh Khan, the app does not waste time providing even a brief a bio of the Bollywood star or his filmography.

Hey, does a man with supposedly a billion fans need a bio?

Instead, the home screen of the app is divided into a series of vertical tabs on the left and a large picture of the star taking up the remaining screen-space.

The tabs include several categories highlighting various aspects of the Bollywood star – Songs, Movies, Live Performances, Interviews, Awards, Ads, Photos, TV Shows, Latest Stuff and even the Ads he’s featured in.

Each tab is then sub-divided into multiple sub-categories.

For instance, the tab on Songs is divided into six sub-categories – After 2000, Before 2000, The Latest, The Most Popular, The Most Recent and The Most Sad/Slow. Fans will love the choice of songs under each sub-category.

Besides song sequences galore from the star’s movies, the app also links to several of SRK’s movies on YouTube including Baazigar, Kabhi Khushie Kabhi Gham, Om Shanti Om, Deewana, Pardes, Trimurti, Ramjaane and Chamatkar.

Presumably the full-length movies are all legal.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Weaknesses

Good as the app is, it still suffers from two weaknesses.

The first is that the app is aesthetically unappealing.

Has none of the razzmatazz you’d associate with Bollywood.

The bigger weakness of the app is its reliance on YouTube as the delivery mechanism for the songs, movies etc.

Not surprisingly, some of the content mentioned on the iPad is not available either because YouTube has pulled it due to copyright violation or the account is no longer active/has been terminated.

One example of missing content is the song Dushman Mera from Don 2 under the Latest Stuff category.

Shah Rukh Khan – Fine App

Its weaknesses aside, SearchIndia.com’s verdict on Shah Rukh Khan is that it’s a damn good app that will thrill his fans no end.

You can download Shah Rukh Khan for your iPad here.

By the way, the Shah Rukh Khan app should also work on the iPod touch.
