king of romance is no more

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Not surprising.

He was 80….had a good innings in Indian cinema.

I look forward to seeing his last movie as director – Jab Tak Hai Jaan (SRK)

    Thanks for the alert.

Look at the plight of our Army officers!

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Just read it. Tragic beyond words.

The man is already paralyzed below the waist.

Injustice in life is seldom prevented by non-violent protests, blog posts/comments or newspaper articles.

If India’s freedom struggle had been violent, Independence from the British yoke could, perhaps, have come sooner.

The problem is with the Human soul, rotten at the core.

Love it – Romnesia!!! Oh, wait, what’s Romnesia? Who’s Romney? ;-)…

Hey SI, I am thinking of getting Netflix on my smart TV.

    What’s ur take on Netflix?

Do they have ALL hollywood movies streaming on netflix, or only some?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. I love Netflix for the DVD side (where they mail you the DVDs) but I’m not pleased with their Instant Streaming collection for Hollywood and Foreign (i.e. European, Chinese, Korean etc) films.

Too anemic for my demanding requirements. Their DVD collection is good but, alas, won’t provide instant gratification.

So I cancelled the Netflix Instant Streaming service and retained the Netflix DVD option alone. (At one time, you could get both streaming and DVD for $9 but the bastards got greedy and now charge separately.)

If I’m desperate for a Hollywood/European movie and if Netflix has a ‘long wait’ for the DVD then I stream it from Amazon Instant for $3 or $4 (you can usually watch it any number of times for 48-hours).

Since, like most desis, I hold a Ph.D in penny-pinching I don’t do this Amazon streaming thing often. πŸ˜‰

*****I understand Netflix has a 30-day free streaming trial. Why not take advantage of it and see how it measures up to your expectation.*****

    2. On Romney, the free entertainment (final debate) starts in about 2 hours.

I’ve already started on my pre-prandial Summum Vodka. Want to be sufficiently high by the time the debate starts to enjoy it all the more.

I have the netflix streaming going on at present thanks to Netflix’s 1 month free trial.

The collection is pretty decent for the average movie watcher.

You have a reasonable collection of new and not-so-new movies / TV series.

You will also find recent Bollywood garbage from time to time. I came across Rowdy Rathore, the latest fart from Akshay kumar.

I also saw that they added the complete Tintin cartoon collections.

If you are picky about what you want to watch then you may or may not (more likely) find it in streaming.

Also, netflix has the bad habit of taking some movies out of streaming while adding new ones.

The best way is to try for yourself as SI has suggested.

What I would do is browse the streaming collection and pick say, 20 movies. Take the trial and exhaust those 20 or so movies and then if you still watch to watch movies then exhaust the streaming ones first.

By the time you are done you would be tired of so much movie watching that you will either cancel Netflix and move to Redbox or you will move to the 1 at a time Netflix DVD plan and junk the streaming option.

      I hope this helps.

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

      Thank you, sweetie!

BTW, Redbox is improving…they have Best Marigold Hotel…a set-in-India lovely film.

      Will upload review later tonite.

        Thanks SI & Naveen.

So what I was suspecting is right.

Netflix doesn’t have all the movies in their streaming plan at a given time, but only some movies.

I will try their 1 month free trial of streaming first and see how it works.

At any given time, how many hollywood movies and how many foreign movies approximately do they have in their streaming service?

        SearchIndia.com Responds:

The last time I checked, Netflix had roughly 22,000 movies and TV shows on the streaming side.

SI – Enjoyed the debate? At times I thought Romney was talking too long.

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

I thought Obama did well, very well.

Obviously because Foreign Policy is an area where Obama has had four-years of hands-on experience and Romney has zero experience.

I’d reckon Obama was on a stronger, firmer ground than Romney throughout the debate!

Romney tried to drag Obama into the current economic mess…but Obama survived the punches without sweat.

Enjoyed the debate thoroughly, particularly Obama’s strong put-down of Romney on the fewer ships in the Navy with his “fewer horses and bayonets now” repartee! πŸ˜‰

      • Naveen   October 23, 2012 at 12:32 am

        I agree.

        Romney seemed a little desperate.

He was shooting in the dark hoping something is hit.

        SearchIndia.com Responds:

But the irony is – Romney’s ‘Real’ Foreign Policy should he be elected President is not going to be much different from Obama’s.

Romney’s problem is that he has to pander to the grassroot White Trash and the conservative whackos who hate anything Obama!

That casino moghul scumbag Sheldon Adelson (& many millionaires and billionaires like him) will receive $2 billion in tax cuts if Mitt is elected as president!! This is who the republicans work for, the super-rich. The so-called “champion” and “friend” of the middle class Mitty!!

          http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/11/sheldon-adelson-2-billion-tax-cut-mitt-romney_n_1873683.html

          SearchIndia.com Responds:

I’ve been following Sheldon Adelson on New Yorker and Politico over the last few months.

Interesting character, although I don’t like him, particularly for his Union-busting tactics.

I doubt he’ll succeed in ousting Obama. Sheldon’s been trying hard for 15-years to screw Shelley Berkley.

          So far, he hasn’t succeeded.

My point is, if Sheldon can’t get rid of a lowly Congresswoman (Shelley Berkley) then he has no chance with the more canny Obama.

If Obama loses, it won’t be because of Sheldon.

The New Yorker had an interesting piece on Sheldon some time back. Sorry, I can’t find the link.

And, I consider Obama a better orator.

        SearchIndia.com Responds:

But Romney is a better scumbag….the polls show them more or less even.
