Don Jon – Delightful Porn But Not Porn

Every man watches porn every day (as the movie’s hero Don Jon screams after being caught by his girlfriend).

My dear enlightened readers, please tell me anon if every man indeed watches porn every day and clear my confusion. 😉

Now before you schmucks start beating your meat, let me douse your raging fire by disclosing that Don Jon is not a porn film although it has tons of raunchy scenes.

Au contraire, this delightful comedy has porn as its central theme (one of the reasons why there were barely 10 people in the movie hall at a theatre on the U.S. East Coast this evening).

Watching porn is the fixation of our young hero Don Jon, played admirably by 32-year-old Joseph Gordon-Levitt who also wrote and directed the film.

No mean feat that – writing, directing and acting in a fine film (Don Jon debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year).

The movie is extremely well written, well directed and well enacted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt with strong support from co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore.

Real Pussy vs Porn

Young, cute and possessing a well toned body, Don Jon has no difficulty attracting pretty girls.

We see him in clubs kissing and dancing with sexy gals who hop into a taxi with Jon and head to his house for sex.

But these sexual encounters never satisfy Jon the way watching and masturbating to online porn does.

Right after the sex, and with the exhausted girl still in bed, Jon rushes to his MacBook to watch online porn.

Don Jon is clear in his belief:

Real pussy is good….But it’s not as good as porn.

Make what you will of that ‘profound’ statement!

And then one evening he sees Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) at a bar, looking dazzlingly sexy in a red dress.

I’ve never thought much of Scarlett Johansson’s acting skills previously but she is right for this movie.

Before long, Jon and Barbara are lovers.

Although Jon loves her and watches all those soppy romance films Barbara is so fond of, yet we find a certain unease in his face.

When Barbara catches him watching porn the first time, our hero lies and gets away. But the second time is a no-go.

Two strikes and you’re out!

The incensed girl storms off, ending the relationship and leaving Don angry, miserable and sad at the same time.

Like all remarkable movies, Don Jon has what I call a nice “setting” that enhances the movie and takes it to a higher plane.

There’s Jon’s endearing family – the exuberant mother longing for a grandchild, the grumpy father watching sports on TV all the time, the sister forever playing with her smartphone and, oh, the church confessions.

Then there’s the crying woman Esther (Julianne Moore), Jon’s mature classmate in college.

Each is a memorable character.

The sister (Brie Larson) speaks only once in the movie and, boy, is she right!

I’ve always been fond of Julianne Moore and she does not disappoint here either.

Don Jon’s appeal to me was heightened by its unpredictable ending.

Your favorite blog SearchIndia.com enthusiastically recommends Don Jon.

Yay! Comments are open after an extra-long hiatus!!

No. I am not that curious-type to know the reason 😛 (but I suppose every dick and pussy out there gonna dart you!)

    So…Hi!

back to business…hell no! I don’t watch porn everyday. I wonder even if anyone is insanely deprived of sex, he would watch EVERYDAY. Sounds impractical!!

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Hello Sweetie!

Has Don Jon released in India? Unlikely, I guess.

People there must be busy watching Raja Rani and Atharintiki Daaredhi.

Even the names of our Indian movies are getting ridiculous!

The first half was howlariously brilliant!

However, it started getting boring towards the end..

On a totally unrelated note – check this.. https://www.quora.com/Words/Whats-the-best-sentence-ever-formed?srid=uMAG&share=1

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. I wouldn’t say it got boring toward the end but the first two-thirds of the film was better than the last.

My favorite character was the sister with the phone!

    2. Now I know what a rhopalic sentence means. (No, rhopalic does not rhyme with phallic!) 😉

Just in case, you’re unclear on the meaning of “is,” Bill Clinton will explain it to you:

A much-quoted statement from Clinton’s grand jury testimony showed him questioning the precise use of the word “is.” Contending that his statement that “there’s nothing going on between us” had been truthful because he had no ongoing relationship with Lewinsky at the time he was questioned, Clinton said, “It depends upon what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is. If the—if he—if ‘is’ means is and never has been, that is not—that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement”.

    Not every day.

    Have you watched “Shame”.

It is a dark movie that deals with addiction to sex. I liked it.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

I read the first few lines of the Wiki profile of Shame and, no, it does not ring a bell.

    Watched Gravity yesterday.

Was worried Sandra Bullock might be a wrong choice for a sci-fi.. But she might just end up with an Oscar.

Gravity – Expect at least 5 Oscar nominations. Best Actress, Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

I was all set to watch Gravity yesterday.

At the last minute, I decided to conduct an experiment involving Abhishek Bachchan (I will publish the resuluts of that experiment tomorrow).

Will watch Gravity tomorrow or day after.

I’ve always considered Sandra Bullock bollocks when it comes to acting. Her shrieking voice drives me up the wall.

Let’s see if Gravity changes my opinion.

Remember watching something of that sort. One with lot of vulgarity Grown Ups 2. It was not bad…so it is hard to fathom how it got only 7 in Rotten Tomatoes.

While formulaic average ones like Riddick could end up with 60!

It is difficult to believe RT.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

I have not seen Grown Ups 2 or Riddick.

Porn? I’m seriously going to puke. Not my favourite subject. 😉

Will try to watch this, but I’m almost sure that this movie won’t find its place in Indian soil. 😐

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Hilarious film….I’m going to watch it again when it hits the DVD.

As I said in the review, not really a porn film!
