Aishwarya Rai Dev Anand Neil Nitin Mukesh
Aishwarya Rai - Hindi Film Star
(Date of Birth - November 1, 1973)

Considered one of the most beautiful women in the world, Aishwarya Rai is a mediocre Bollywood actress.

Born on November 1, 1973 in the coastal city of Mangalore in the South Indian state of Karnataka, her father Krishnaraj Rai is a former marine engineer and her mother Vrinda Rai a writer. Aishwarya's elder brother Aditya Rai is in the merchant navy.

Aishwarya shot into the limelight when she won the Miss World title in 1997.

Although she'd been a model before, winning the Miss World title at the beauty gave her tremendous publicity facilitating her eventual entry into movies.

Aishwarya began her movie career with a Tamil movie called Iruvar directed by Mani Ratnam, an overrated Hindi and Tamil movie director. Iruvar was loosely based on the rivalry between the late movie star and politician M.G.Ramachandran and his DMK rival M.Karunanidhi.

Although the beauty queen's first Bollywood film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya opposite that non-actor Bobby Deol was a damp squib at the box office, Aishwarya quickly established herself in the Hindi film industry.

Even in Bollywood where acting capabilities are quite uncommon, Aishwarya stands out for her non-acting talent. Compared to her rivals like Rani Mukerji, Madhuri Dixit or even Preity Zinta, Aishwarya is a stiff wooden log.

Despite her limited acting skills, Aishwarya did win some appreciation for her performances in Taal and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Aishwarya's recent films include Jodhaa Akbar Guru, Dhoom 2, Umrao Jaan, Mistress of Spices and Provoked. Her upcoming movies include Sarkar Raj, The Next Pink Panther and Robot.

Movies like Umrao Jaan, Mistress of Spices and Provoked where Aishwarya had the central role did not resonate at the box office.

Before her recent marriage, Aishwarya dated first Bollywood bad boy Salman Khan and later Viveik Oberoi.

Aishwarya married her Guru co-star Abhishek Bachchan (son of Amitabh Bachchan) on April 21, 2007 in Mumbai.

Aishwarya Rai is currently in the final stages of getting a trademark on her name from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
