Rewatching Terminator; I’ll be Back

The Terminator is returning tomorrow.

We first watched Terminator some 10-15 years back.

With Terminator Salvation set to release here tomorrow (in the U.S.), we thought it was time to revisit the original.

Released in 1984, Terminator features the Austrian-American body-builder, steroids user and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn.

In Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger (now California Governor) plays the eponymous role of terminator, a Cyborg assassin and killing machine sent back to 1984 with the mission to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton).

James Cameron (of the subsequent Titanic fame) was the director of Terminator.

Made on a low budget, the movie went on to become a big box office success and set the stage for three sequels (including the one releasing tomorrow).

Terminator is now part of the U.S. National Film Registry archive.

We’ll update this post after we finish watching the movie.

Update:
Although most films have their best impact in the time period in which they are released, Terminator (set in Los Angeles of 1984) is still a decent movie to watch even 25 years later.

The Terminator from the future is probably the only role suited for a lousy actor like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Arnold’s expression-less acting ‘skills’ are ideal for the role of the mechanical cyborg (cybernetic organism) bent on killing Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and thus her unborn son John Connor and thus preventing resistance against the machines in the future.

And helping Sarah survive the attacks on her is the human Kyle Riese (Michael Biehn), also from the future.  Weird, na.

Nice lines from the movie:

* I’ll be back. – Cyborg

* Thank you Sarah for your courage through the dark years. I can’t help you with what you must soon face except to say that the future is not set. You must be stronger than you imagine you can be. You must survive or I’ll never exist. – John Connor

* The few hours that we had together, we lived a lifetime’s worth. – Sarah Connor

* There’s a storm coming. – Mexican boy

    The new edition will be much better/different, I think.. for one, John Connor is the lead character and Bale is a million times better actor than Guvnor.

    Saw this movie today. Sam Worthington steals the show. Decent summer movie…probably the best one among the ones released so far.

    Yes, probably the best one among the ones released so far.

    But that’s not saying much.

    Among the three terminator movies I’ve watched, T1,T2 and T3, I just LOVED Terminator 2 Judgment Day. It was the best of the 3. The graphics were so much ahead of its time.That’s what i felt when i first watched T2 on tv many years back.

    And it is still a fantastic movie to watch.

    The T-1000 (Robert Patrick) in T2 has got be one of the best villians ever.

    T2 was good as was T1.

    Maybe, we’ll rewatch it next week.

    What about True Lies?

    Planning to watch it?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    We originally thought we had not seen it but after skimming through the Wiki profile we realized we’ve seen it.

    Can vividly recollect the fighter plane scene at the end but having a hard time now recollecting the beginning and middle. Maybe, we’ll rewatch it.
