Before there was Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, there was the blockbuster love story Maine Pyar Kiya.

Fresh face Bhagyashree set the screen afire as the young lass Suman in love with Prem (Salman Khan).

Suman's father Karan (Alok Nath) leaves her in his friend Kishen's (Rajeev Verma) house as he's going to Dubai to make money. Soon, Suman and Kishen's son Prem fall in love much to the chagrin of Prem's father, who wants his only son to marry the daughter of his business associate Ranjeet (Ajit Vachani).

In typical Bollywood style, vested interests put the young lovers through a trial of fire before the denouement.

Almost every single song in Maine Pyar Kiya is a treat. Our favorites were Aaja Shaam Hone Aayee, Dil Deewana Bin Sajna Ke and Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali.

Bhagyashree stole the show in Maine Pyar Kiya but Salman Khan's performance was not bad either.

Deservedly, this movie went on to become one of the biggest hits of the 1980s. - Copyright SearchIndia.com.
