U Me Aur Hum Fares Badly at U.S. Box Office

U Me Aur Hum Crashes in U.S. – Down 73.3%

Compared to other high profile recent Bollywood movies, U Me Aur Hum, Ajay Devgan’s crude  lift of Hollywood movie The Notebook,  has fared badly at the U.S. box office.

In its opening weekend (April 11-13),  U Me Aur Hum grossed a mere $642,923.

Jodhaa Akbar (Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai), Om Shanti Om (Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone) and even Race (starring a bunch of B-Grade Bollywood actors) did much better than U Me Aur Hum.

Let’s compare U Me Aur Hum with a few recent Bollywood movies like Race, Jodhaa Akbar and Om Shanti Om.

In their opening weekends, Jodhaa Akbar grossed $1.3 million, Om Shanti Om grossed $1.76 million while Race grossed $802,254.

In the opening weekend at the U.S. box office, Om Shanti Om debuted at No-11, Jodhaa Akbar at No-19, Race was No-18 while U Me Aur Hum came in at No-19.

Released in 89 theaters in the U.S., U Me Aur Hum had an average gross per theater of $7,223 which again was much lower than Jodhaa Akbar ($13,000) and Om Shanti Om ($15,474). Even the horrible movie Race came in better than U Me Aur Hum with an average gross per theater of $8,356.

Jodhaa Akbar and Om Shanti Om were directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar (of Lagan fame) and Farah Khan respectively and had bigger stars in Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan respectively.

Ajay Devgan produced and directed U Me Aur Hum, which feature DDLJ girl Kajol and her real-life husband Ajay Devgan in lead roles.

Krazzy 4, which released on the same day as U Me Aur Hum, has fared worse (please see below).
