Mumbai Terrorist Nightmare Ends; 195 Dead

The horrific terrorist attacks on Mumbai since November 26 that cost the lives of 195 people has ended 60-hours later with the last of the terrorists being killed by Indian commandos at the five-star Taj Hotel on Saturday morning (IST).

The coordinated rampage by the team of 12 terrorists at 10 locations also wounded some 327 people.

Although a little known outfit called Deccan Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack, Indian officials have been hinting at the attacker’s connections to Pakistan.

The violence also claimed the lives of 22 foreigners including five Americans and five Israelis.

I am disappointed, but not surprised, at the angle taken in the coverage by the Morris version of the Star-Ledger. Even though 172 of the people killed were Indians, and despite reporting that there are 250,000 Indians living in New Jersey, you would hardly believe either figure. Instead, you would have thought it was 172 Jews that were killed based on their excessive coverage of the five that actually were dead. In this part of the country, the world revolves around them, but please for once in my life I could have done with some balanced reporting. Instead we got to read about so and so’s friend from rabbinical school and this and that.

Then they decided to write a story about people worshiping and holding vigils etc. But again instead of showing people attending one of many Hindu temples where things were being arranged, they pick photos of a group at a synagogue. Again I’m confused. Which country/ethnic/religious group lost 172 people and which one lost five?????

The distortion was not restricted to print.

On TV too, we felt the attention to the death of a few Jews was beyond the pale given that roughly 85%-90% of the dead were Indians.

Sometimes we think the major cable channels insist on a maximum IQ of 75 for their staff.

but they were talking about the rabbi’s food interests with some baker nearby… bullshit…
