Will Slumdog Roar at Oscars Too? Gets 10 Nominations

No surprise here.

After sweeping the Golden Globes, Slumdog Millionaire has now received 10 Oscar nominations including three for music maestro A.R.Rahman.

But we are mighty peeved that our other favorite – Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino – failed to receive even a single nomination.

The 81st Annual Academy Awards (i.e. Oscars) will be awarded on February 22.

The nominations for Slumdog Millionaire are for:

* Cinematography

* Direction

* Film Editing

* Music (Score) – A.R.Rahman

* Two for Music (Song) – Jai Ho and O Saya (Two for A.R.Rahman, one for Gulzar and one for Maya Arulpragasam)

* Best Picture

* Sound (Editing),

* Sound (Mixing) – Ian Tapp, Richard Pryke and Resul Pookutty

* Writing (Adapted Screenplay)

    Damn, I wanted to beat you to it (to find out who got nominated).. but overslept.

    Hope ARR win both. He’ll perform at the Oscars, right? Don’t all nominees do?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Can’t remember if nominees perform.

    Looks like the Big B is sharing his kool-aid concoction with half the rest of the country, sending his minions to camp outside Anil Kapoor’s house, etc.

    Harry and SI, The song nominations are always performed. So Jai Ho and O Saya will be done along with the song from Wall-E live for everyone. Should be fun seeing Jai Ho “picturized” live.

    It was disappointing to see Gran Torino shut out, but not totally unwarranted. As I commented at the time, the acting outside of Eastwood left a lot to be desired. So did some of the roles in Slumdog, but they were rightfully shut out in the acting categories while the rest of the film received its proper recognition.

    Resul Pookutty probably needs a mention above?

    Enchanted has 3 songs nominated last year and won none .. that’s not a good precedent..

    Alas, Resul Pookutty is not a she. 🙁

    Added his name. Thanks.
