Old Sivaji Ganesan Favorites

Over the decades, we’ve drunk deep from the Pierian Spring of Sivaji Ganesan movies.

Some of the finest Tamil songs of yesteryear are from movies featuring  Sivaji Ganesan.

They delighted us in the spring of our childhood. They charmed us in the summer of our youth. They comforted us in the autumn of our middle age. They consoled us in the winter of our fading years.

Here are some of our Sivaji Ganesan favorites:

Vandha naal mudhal – Is this the greatest Sivaji song ever? This classic is from the 1960 movie Paava Mannippu.

Yaarukaga indha maligai – We’ve listened to this gem from the 1970s film Vasanta Maligai a million times. And yet we never tire of it.

Unn Kannil neer vazhindhal – T.M.Soundararajan never fails to bring forth tears in this classic from Vietnam Veedu. We’ve seen this movie in a previous lifetime but can’t remember anything.

Kanna neyum naannuma – Back in the ol’ days, this fine song from Gowravam used to blare forth from all loudspeakers in Tamil Nadu.

Sothanai Mel Sothanai – Sivaji was a police officer in Thanga Pathakkam.

Ponnai Virumbum – This one is from the movie Aalayamani

“paatum naanae” from thiruvilayadal was recorded for balamurali krishna by music director mahadevan. sivaji and director were not impressed after filming. i guess, they have to rerecord whole song for some reason with TMS. rest is history.

‘vandha naal mudhal’ gets first prize though. what a song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also my fav, “poyem poyem manidhanuku’, ‘thirudadhae’, ‘adho andha paravai pola’, ‘vazha ninaithal’, ‘mulai malar maelae’, ‘poanal pogatum’, ‘malargalai poal thangai’

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Ponal pogattum is lovely….heard that countless times over the years.

“Yaradi ni Mogini…” – Uthimaputhiran?? It’s a very good composition and song in which Sivaji was very stylish

“Aha Mella Nada mella nada…” it’s also a good one

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

BTW have you seen ‘Mudhal Mariyathai’, one fine performance by ‘Shivaji’ Ganesan

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

No, but we have the DVD (one of those Indian 2-in-1 Vasanta Maligai-Mudhal Mariyadhai combo).

Will watch it one of these days

have not seen vasantha maligai, had always felt melodramatic, so have always skipped.. maybe will watch for nostalgia someday.. if I can’t reach the remote that is.
I browse the web to see what others think of the films I’ve enjoyed.. was reading th IMDB entries for ‘Der Untergang’ and was curious .. have you seen this movie. I couldnt get the images of Hitler out of my mind. Felt so real. Yes Netflix has it.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Der Untergang?

Das hatten wir noch nicht gesehen (we haven’t seen it).
