Taken – Not Bad, Not Bad At All

Just finished watching Taken, a high octane action film featuring Liam Neeson as the father of a kidnapped girl who rushes from L.A. to Paris to rescue her from sex traffickers.

Folks, no matter what others tell you this movie has only one actor in the whole movie.

And that is our retired CIA agent Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson). The rest are mere props.

While some desis have derisively referred to Taken as the story of a 60-year-old going about bashing young thugs, we gotta tell you Liam Neeson does a fairly decent job within the straitjacket of a B-grade script.

Now pour some scotch, relax in your La-Z-Boy and press the start button on your remote.

Before you know it, this fast-paced action film with car chases and all will be over.

Heck, you could do worse than watch Taken this weekend.

Taken is good 1) if you needed an action fix AND 2) if you had already watched “The Matrix” AND 3) you get it for free at the redbox kiosk*.. but for someone, who hasn’t watched Matrix, to have $4.58 Taken from them is a criminal waste(bizarre grammar, I guess)… the derision is warranted.

*Is there any Blockbuster Express Kiosk near your place?.. The closest to my home are 10 miles away.. even these take free codes, it seems.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Can’t remember if we’ve ever seen a Blockbuster Express kiosk. Only the regular Blockbuster stores, which have a forlorn look compared to 10+ years back (pre-Netflix, pre-Internet download days).

We should have first checked at RedBox (considering there are three in a radius of four-five miles). Also, we’d misplaced our old Blockbuster card and went there primarily to get a replacement.

Its produced by Luc Besson who made similar fast paced action movies like Transporter, Nikita …

I’m looking forward to seeing Vijayakanth remaking Taken in the near future.

Probably Nayanthara can act as his daughter.

In this movie, Vijaykanth will pay the criminals to keep her!

Won’t be surprised if it happens.

After all, the Denzel Washington-Dakota Fanning action movie Man on Fire was made in Tamil as that pathetic Aanai.

    2. Only in India can folks like Vijaykanth and Nayantara fob off the masses that they too are actors.

As we’ve said ad infinitum, outside of India or the desis abroad our ‘movies’ would be the laughing stock.

In this day and age, we make movies like Kambhakkht Ishq, a crappy copy of a crappy Tamil movie Pammal K.Sambandam.

looks like you have to go ~50 miles for the nearest blockbuster kiosk.. assuming that you are in XXXX.

why does [deleted] in the title? Is that deliberate?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

No, that’s what you’d call a lapsus clavis.

    Fixed. Thanks.

Just in case you can’t read Tamil, the red line says “Naalu Kaalu Paichalile”

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Kanna, adhu Singam illai, adhu Asingam 😉

(English translation loses punch – Kiddo, that’s not valor/lion but ugly.)

On the plus side, we have Anushka.

“After all, the Denzel Washington-Dakota Fanning action movie Man on Fire was made in Tamil as that pathetic Aanai.”

Also remade in Hindi as Ek Ajnabee, frame to frame. The worst thing is that both Ek Ajnabee, and Man on Fire were playing on different channels at the same time.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

We’ve seen Ek Ajnabee. Pure crap.

Here’s the Ek Ajnabee review (pre-SI blog)

I guess maybe the movie should have starred SRK or Akshay Kumar or Salman Khan, LOL.

BTW Liam Neeson at any given day is a much better actor than these jokers.

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

No, only the trailer (multiple times).
