Rocket Singh – Epic Disaster at Box Office

When a Bollywod movie grosses less than a Harman Baweja film in the opening weekend at the box office, there are only two words in the English language to describe its miserable fate: EPIC DISASTER.

Yes, folks.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year has fared miserably at the U.S. box office.

So bad that even Harman Baweja’s What’s Your Rashee had a higher opening gross ($169,005).

There can be no bigger shame for Rocket Singh’s main star Ranbir Kapoor and the movie’s producer Yash Raj Films.

In the December 11-13, 2009 opening weekend at the U.S. box office, Rocket Singh could manage only a pitiful $164,649.

Just in case you are wondering, Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films is credited as the producer of Rocket Singh.

Rocket Singh, which came in at No-25 for the December 11-13 weekend, opened in 70 theaters giving it an average gross of $2,352.

If you really want to see how horribly Rocket Singh has fared at the U.S. box office compared to a few other prominent Bollywood films, here look at the below numbers:

Disaster in UK Too
Yes, Rocket Singh has fared pitifully at the U.K. box office too.

Here see for yourself:

Rocket Singh is doing very badly in India.
It is shocking for both Ranbir Kapoor and both Yashraj films as this film has opened badly than Saawariya and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom/Tashan respectively.

We wonder if Yash Raj can even recover its money.

When is Avatar review coming up? 86% in rotten tomatoes!!

I’m going for tomorrow evening premiere show.

    Couldn’t control the excitement.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Looks like Avatar Premiere is happening on Wednesday evening in India. Good for you.

Here it’s releasing Thursday night. So review will be in the early morning hours of Friday (Eastern Time, i.e. Friday evening IST).

I have heard good things about the movie. Too bad it didnt work. However please see the movie and review it.

    Not in this lifetime.

    We saw the trailer….not impressed.

    >> Looks like Avatar Premiere is happening on Wednesday evening

No, here also its Thursday evening. By tomorrow I meant Thursday – shows how excited I am 😉

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

We’re in two minds: See Avatar in IMAX or a regular theater. Most likely, we’ll go to an IMAX theater and watch it.

BTW, what’s the buzz (if at all) for that Velaikaran, Samayalkaran, Pichchakaran or wateva-karan’s movie.

We feel sorry for James Cameron that he has to contend with such ‘strong’ competition. 😉

In the US, I believe the first show is Thursday 12:01 am – a.k.a wednesday night.. and then another 12:01 am show on Friday kicks off the regular shows.

    😉

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

No. It’s Friday 12:01 AM i.e. late night Thursday.

After first clicking on your link when you then click on the time, it clearly states the following:

Note: You have selected a late Thursday night (Friday morning) show.

Surely, you know the link you posted. 😉 So you can easily check it again.

oh, 😳 you win again.. that’s ridiculous.. 12:01 am is NOT Thursday… Fandango idiots

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Fandango must have been a disastrous acquisition ($200 million, if you go by Om Malik’s piece) for that Brian Roberts bozo at Comcast.

Velaikaran hardly has any buzz. The disgusting trailer made me throw up. But there are lot of Vijay fanatics. Those lunatics will anyway watch it.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Yes, the trailer was sick.

But Anushka looks tabulicious. We’ve seen her so far only in that short role in Rendu.

Instead of posting these reports y don u post a review of the movie..bcoz box office tells very less abt a movie..For example “Anbe Sivam” was a flop..Can tat be classified as a bad movie..Rocket Singh has been gettin decent reviews(Masand gave it 3.5 stars and he s quite a guy in reviewin a movie)..So use the time u used in writin this post for reviewin the movie..Bcoz these reports tend to make the readers stay away from movie(even if it is gud..for example if u had given the box office report of anbe sivam none wud ve watched it)..

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write above: y don u post a review of the movie..bcoz box office tells very less abt a movie

Come back when you learn to construct a proper sentence.

    2. You write: Instead of posting these reports y don u post a review of the movie

Why? Because the numbers tell an embarrassing, shameful story vis-a-vis the stars or the producers?

If Bollywood or their lesser known siblings made better movies, they wouldn’t have to undergo these frequent shameful ordeals.

    3. You write: So use the time u used in writin this post for reviewin the movie

Should that sad day arrive when we have to listen to advice from semi-literate baboons like you, we’ll pour some lead into our mouth.

    4. Anbe Sivam was a nice movie. Anbe Sivam – Jewel in the Dinosaur’s Crown.

We are not sure you are right in dubbing it a flop.

Do you have any credible links?

The video in the second link was nice.

BTW, the first link is not working.

is there any sponsors for watching movies becos the duration with in which you keep watching movies is amazing no fella can spend this much amount in garbage movies
or is it that you contribute your “hard earned” money to the bollywoods kollyowoods and other woods out of your generosity $15 means it is almost 750rs

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write: $15 means it is almost 750rs

One more history created this year –
Bhansali’s Black created history in South Korean market.
It was released at end of August and debuted at 3rd place there.
It then created more history (the second weekend gross instead of falling rise by 31 %).
This is lesson to Bollywood actors and filmmakers – instead of blaming culture difference and different tastes if your film fails in overseas, make a good film.
If you make good film it will run even in Samoa Islands.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write: Bhansali’s Black created history in South Korean market.

When we first watched Black a few years back, we considered it a decent movie. Unsure how we’d find the movie today.

  12. sanewar   December 17, 2009 at 12:33 pm

no doubt, black is shit, should ve been a play not a movie.

rani and Big B were over action at best.

Liked it then. But after watching so many, many movies after that…we might have a different take now.

    Maybe, we’ll watch it again.

What the heck…if we can watch Pravarakyudu we can see Black again.

I heard Rocket Singh isn’t doing well at the BO here too..!!!

I read a few reviews .. Goin by them, RS is an OK movie. Not a must-not-miss one like Avatar.

BTW plannin to watch Avatar in a couple of days..! 🙂

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write above: Not a must-not-miss one like Avatar.

You have a nerve mentioning RS and Avatar in the same comment. Compared to Jim Cameron, the RS folks are chuha (mice).
