Well, in your above link the word Religion is a mere euphemism for Islam.

      I like their older slogan

“There’s probably no God, now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

More pain has been inflicted on humanity in the name of God (Christ, Ram, Allah et al) than anyone else. The Devil, Stalin, Hitler and Narendar Modi are saints in comparison.

      • Twig   August 3, 2010 at 11:55 am

On that Narendra Modi issue, why am I not hating these days?
come to think of it, he is the only person one can say who has no personal & family ambitions of amassing huge wealth. He is almost corruption free. He is making gujarat grow @10% range per year.
A Technology friendly CM. Gives equal importance to farmers and industrialists. so on and so on.
Does all these above actions nullify his actions of not acting on after math of Godhra train burning? I think so, once Gujarat develops in to a adavanced and powerful state just like America being powerful makes all countries shut their asses.
He is better than [deleted] called Lallllllu prasad yadav, mulayams , pashwans, reddys etc.
        You say so?

        SearchIndia.com Responds:

        We disagree.

Development is no defense for the large-scale unjustified killing of Muslims in Gujarat.

        • Twig   August 3, 2010 at 11:56 am

I am disappointed that you have posted a statement made by a nut (even if he/she may be on internut).

Certainly the statement is catchy and pithy, and something that Islam-bashers would love. But it does a disservice to a lot of people who follow Islam without the aggressive aspects of it.

It is not about the veracity of the above statement, but about the stereotypes that the statement reinforces, and the manner in which the statement provokes reactions without provoking thoughts and debate.

Nevertheless, you might have come across several articles on the plan to build an Islamic cultural center. Here, I quote a section from the article which is available on the following link:

    http://abovethelaw.com/2010/08/allahu-akbar-mosque-near-ground-zero-clears-a-final-hurdle/

    *******************************************************************************************************
The Anti-Defamation League national director, Abraham H. Foxman, said in an interview on Friday that the organization came to the conclusion that the location was offensive to families of victims of Sept. 11, and he suggested that the centerโ€™s backers should look for a site โ€œa mile away.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s the wrong place,โ€ Mr. Foxman said. โ€œFind another place.โ€

Asked why the opposition of the families was so pivotal in the decision, Mr. Foxman, a Holocaust survivor, said they were entitled to their emotions. โ€œSurvivors of the Holocaust are entitled to feelings that are irrational,โ€ he said. Referring to the loved ones of Sept. 11 victims, he said, โ€œTheir anguish entitles them to positions that others would categorize as irrational or bigoted.โ€
    *******************************************************************************************************

I am particularly interested in the last statement, that is:

Their anguish entitles them to positions that others would categorize as irrational or bigoted

I would like to know your view and that of other readers on this statement.
Mind you, none of us have experienced anything like holocaust.

PS: SI might disagree with that last statement, after dining at several Indian eateries in NY.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You quote: Their anguish entitles them to positions that others would categorize as irrational or bigoted

    We agree 100%.

Considerable leeway always ought to be extended to those who’ve experienced enormous pain.

In the instance of the Mosque, the opponents are not even irrational. It’s like building a memorial for Kasab at the Mumbai train station where he massacred so many hapless souls.

While we’ve not experienced the Holocaust, not surprising considering we were born in the late 1990s ๐Ÿ˜‰ we’ve read about it in depth in William Shirer’s fine work The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and also been to the Holocaust Museum in DC to understand its horrors well.

    2. You write: it does a disservice to a lot of people who follow Islam without the aggressive aspects of it

Increasingly we’re veering to the view that Islam without the aggressive aspects is a contradiction in terms.

    3. You write: It is not about the veracity of the above statement, but about the stereotypes that the statement reinforces,

Must be our political correctness that makes people to not even consider that stereotypes often have a kernel of truth in them.

    4. As for eating at Indian restaurants in NYC, the Ganesh Temple canteen in Queens and Saravanaa Bhavan are not bad bets and, of course, the Bangladeshi fella Miru’s Biryani Cart in mid-town.

I agree with Twig. Modi is the only hope for India. And these Cong Asses are blaming him for Sohrabuddin Killing! So what if he was killed? He was a terrorist.

Unjustified Killing Of Muslims, bullshit! How can you justify “Justified” killing of Hindu priests in J&K? Moreover, if the Gujju Muslims were so upset with so called “Unjustified Killing”, how come he got elected twice in a row after that!

    Hail Modi.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write: How can you justify “Justified” killing of Hindu priests in J&K?

    We don’t justify it.

Killing anyone on the basis of some non-existent God is stupid.

If we go by Wiki, Sohrabuddin was an alleged terrorist not a proven terrorist.

What about Sohrabuddin’s wife Kausar Bi. What did the poor woman do that she had to be strangled to death?

    2. You write: Moreover, if the Gujju Muslims were so upset with so called “Unjustified Killing”, how come he got elected twice in a row after that!

Is victory in election a defense for Modi’s egregious inaction in preventing the carnage?

Modi won likely because Hindus loved the butchery of Muslims.

    3. You write: Hail Modi.

Sounds like Heil Hitler to us. ๐Ÿ™
