We were on a visit to Bangalore.
The morning’s Deccan Herald brought forth the unwelcome and distressing news that Kannada actress Kalpana had crushed some diamonds into a glass of milk and consumed the contents.
Kalpana’s death was a great loss not merely to Kannada films but the world of Indian cinema for she was an extraordinary actress with few competitors among her peers in the acting realm. Her notable films include Belli Moda, Gejje Pooje, Kappu Bilupu, Sharapanjara and Eradu Kanasu.
Few outside Karnataka have heard of Kalpana and with the passage of time she has likely faded away from people’s memory.
As homage to the forgotten actress, we present the below video song from the film Bayalu Daari. Kalpana is paired with Anant Nag in this song.
By the way, after watching the below video don’t y’all see shades of Kalpana in Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone (who too hails from Bangalore) in some scenes? Deepika, of course, lacks the easy grace Kalpana exhibited in every step.
