Boy falls in love with the most beautiful girl - and the cynosure of all eyes - in the college.

For the boy, it's love at sight but the egoistic, arrogant girl ignores him initially only to confess her love for him at the end of the movie.

Is there anything new in this beaten-to-death story line?

We don't think so but unimaginative Tamil film directors still believe such themes are fertile ground and spew out movies like Sachein.

Within this lame straitjacket of a story, it's difficult to expect much and we won't.

Both Vijay and Genelia handle their roles well, though Genelia's performance as the short-tempered, arrogant girl in this feel good movie is a few notches better.

Sachein (Vijay) and Shalini (Genelia) meet as college students in Ooty. Sachein is the cool cat while Genelia is the girl, who has all the boys making a beeline for her.

Some scenes in Sachein look horribly contrived. For instance when Vijay is at the bedside of a dying child, the young kid's father is somewhere in the shadows and the mother is not even present in that crucial moment.

What was the moron of a director thinking?

Also, we can't recollect a single scene where the students are shown in the classroom or seen studying. Well, we guess the purpose of college these days is pursuit of romance not pursuit of knowledge.

It's become tiring to see Vijay in action films, single handedly knocking down 10 or 20 villains simultaneously. So, it's welcome to see him in a different kind of role for a change although we must caution that there are a couple of scenes even in Sachein where he jumps into the avatar of action hero knocking down a whole gang of thugs.

Vadivelu's comic interludes are hilarious as usual. Usually at the receiving end of insults or blows, Vadivelu's range of expressions are amazing. He's easily the best comedian we have in India today.

Bollywood babe Bipasha Basu looks and acts horrid as the skimpily clad girl vying for Sachein's attentions.

Sachein's music is a horrendous assault on the ear drums.- Copyright SearchIndia.com
