Some members on the SearchIndia.com blog (Aditya, Asha Tampa) have so raved about the American TV sitcom Friends that we felt compelled to add it to our Netflix queue.

Our first DVD (Season One – Disc 1) from Netflix is actually scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

Since we’re living in the age of instant gratification, we got impatient and trooped over to our local library to see if they stocked any of the Friends DVDs.

Lo and behold, there were two DVDs of Friends waiting for us on the library shelf: Season Continue reading »

Delhi 6 Review – A Meaningless Kaleidoscope

Folks, Delhi 6 has opened to bad reviews.

Is anyone out there surprised that an Abhishek Bachchan movie has opened to poor reviews? We’re sure you all remember the Drona disaster.

Delhi 6 has yet to release in the U.S. but here’s a sample of reviews from Indian newspapers:

Live Mint

After 2006′s Rang de Basanti, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra was feted as the chronicler of Indian dreams and disappointments. A title like that is a big cross to bear, especially when it’s time to make your next film. With Delhi-6, Mehra tries to make another what’s-wrong/right-with-India movie and–god I feel so bad saying this–completely loses the plot.

This time too, like in RDB, he attempts to weave together multiple narratives that you hope will meet in that Crash Bang Climax. Instead, he leaves us wondering What Just Happened.

IndiaTimes:

The movie makes an interesting start as it introduces multiple characters and gets into multi-track storytelling. But soon the characters and the tracks start jumbling up, giving way for continuity lapses Continue reading »

Even as the desperate terrorist outfit LTTE intensifies recruitment of children to expand its depleted cadres of foot-soldiers, Tamils around the world have lost their voices.

Eelam Exists
No protests. Not a pipsqueak from the clowns in Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, UK or Canada. Only a deafening silence fills the air.

Why is there such silence over LTTE’s child soldiers?

Simple answer, folks. Because there is already an Eelam (Tamil Nation) in the hearts and minds of Tamils everywhere that turns a Nelson’s Eye toward the most heinous atrocities committed by the LTTE but focuses their angst only on the Sinhalas.

That the LTTE terrorists have been recruiting children – and forcibly at that – is hardly anything new. It’s been going on for several years now.

But now with the LTTE suffering crushing defeat after crushing defeat at the hands of the Sri Lankan armed forces lately, the terrorist outfit has expanded its forcible recruitment of children soldiers.

UNICEF Protests
This is what UNICEF’s Representative in Sri Lanka Philippe Duamelle had to say on Tuesday:

We have clear indications that the LTTE has intensified forcible recruitment of civilians and that children as young as 14 years old are now being targeted . These children are facing immediate danger and their lives are at great risk. Their recruitment is intolerable.

UNICEF says it’s documented over 6,000 cases of children recruited by the Continue reading »

BigAdda, the social networking site of Anil Ambani’s Reliance ADA group, is faring badly compared to other social networking sites in India.

Losing Ground
Notwithstanding its big ambitions, BigAdda is actually losing ground to rivals like Orkut, Facebook, Bharatstudent.com, hi5 and MySpace.

New research released by web researcher comScore today shows that total unique visitors to BigAdda.com fell 25% from December 2007 to December 2008 even as total unique visitors to all social networking sites in India rose 51% to 19.37 million.

As BigAdda’s unique visitors were falling, Google’s Orkut, Facebook, hi5, Bharatstudent and MySpace were recording significant increases in unique visitors.

Take a look at the below table to understand what an uphill battle BigAdda faces:

Readers to SearchIndia.com won’t be surprised that BigAdda is having a hard time. Continue reading »
