A new survey released today by Kaiser Family Foundation offers more depressing health care news – six out of ten respondents said their family has delayed or skipped medical care in the past year due to cost reasons.

The survey finds that the most common actions taken by people because of the cost constraints are substituting home remedies or over-the-counter drugs for doctors visits (42%) and skipping dental care or check ups (36%). In addition, three in ten (29%) did not fill a prescription for medicine and two in ten (18%) cut pills in half or skipped doses.

We think these numbers are gross underestimates. But you do get the picture.

In a few hours, Apple will reach an extraordinary milestone – the download of the one billionth application from its App Store that feeds millions of hungry iPhones and iPod touch multimedia devices.

Launched in early July 2008, the App Store has been a phenomenal success with 35,000 applications and a billion downloads. As we write this post at 9:44PM ET, Apple had 995.97 million downloads from the App Store.

For Apple to reach this milestone in nine months, and that too in a recession environment when every other major digital media company is having a hard time, is just mindblowing.

On the iPhone, the App Store is a breeze to use. Just tap the App Store icon on the screen to enter into the magical world of the 35,000 applications. When an application that you have downloaded gets an update, you get an notification in the ‘Updates’ tab of the App Store on the iPhone.

The App Store applications come in a variety of categories including Continue reading »

Folks, here comes yet another edition of Amazing America.

* 17-year-old girls in the U.S. who screw without contraceptives don’t have to worry anymore about getting a swollen belly because they can get the Plan B morning after birth control pill without a prescription and without permission from their parents.

Yes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration agency signalled its approval of Plan B today.

For all ye ignoramuses out there in the backwaters of Kovilpatti, Bhagalpur and Nanded, Plan B is the popular name for the Levonorgestrel birth control pill.

This is what the FDA said on Wednesday:

On March 23, 2009, a federal court issued an order directing the FDA, within 30 days, to permit the Plan B drug sponsor to make Plan B available to women 17 and older without a prescription. The government will not appeal this decision. In accordance with the court’s order, and consistent with the scientific findings since 2005 by the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, FDA sent a letter to the manufacturer of Plan B that the company may, upon submission and approval of an appropriate application, market Plan B without a prescription to women 17 years of age and older.

By the way, Plan B is manufactured by Duramed Research Inc. of Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

Representatives of Christian organizations in the U.S. are already jumping like their tails are on fire. Continue reading »

Future historians will most certainly describe Pakistan’s craven surrender to the Taliban pigs in the Swat region as a Himalayan blunder.

Emboldened by the surrender of Swat Valley, the Taliban has already ushered in Sharia (Islamic law) in parts of Swat and taken over the neighboring Buner district as well.

How far from Buner to Pakistan’s capital Islamabad – only 60 miles.

Now, these Taliban Suvar (pigs) have grown so audacious as to demand Sharia law in America. No, we’re not kidding.

Here’s an excerpt from the CNN story:

Khan said if his vision of an Islamic society is fulfilled in Pakistan, terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden will be welcome to travel and live openly here. “Sure, he’s a Muslim, he can go anywhere,” Khan said.

Khan added that he would like to see sharia law implemented beyond Pakistan, even in America, a country he knows intimately. For four years, the Taliban spokesman lived in the United States, working as a painter near Boston, Massachusetts.

Now before all you Indian idiots start your chant that all Pakistanis are in bed with the Taliban, let’s make it clear that just is not true.

There’s a large silent majority in Pakistan Continue reading »
