Do Tamils Love LTTE Terrorists More & India Less?

Ever since the Sri Lankan armed forces achieved some success in their recent attacks against the LTTE, there has been a spate of protests across Tamil Nadu lately.

Now even the Tamil film industry has joined the fray with plans to hold a protest meeting in Rameswaram Chennai on October 19.

Hello, does anyone remember that it was these same LTTE terrorists that brutally murdered former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in May 1991 in Tamil Nadu.

Of course some will protest that Tamils in Tamil Nadu are supporting only the Sri Lankan Tamils and not the LTTE.

But in our view that distinction does not exist. Without financial support from Tamil Nadu and the Tamil diaspora, the LTTE would probably collapse in a few weeks.

When Indian Tamils now say they are supporting Sri Lankan Tamils that’s just an euphemism or code word for supporting LTTE in its desperate hour of need.

The LTTE has been on the U.S. State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations since 1997.

Sleeping?
What are the Indian intelligence agencies doing as Tamil Nadu politicians and film stars fan the flames and encourage nonsense like protests and rallies? Probably sleeping.

After all, it was the Indian intelligence dodos that trained LTTE in India in the 1980s.

Indian Tamils support for LTTE is the same as Pakistan’s support for terrorism in Kashmir.

off-topic.. Why doesn’t bollywood want to make movie about Indira Gandhi.. that would make a very interesting story.

comedy track will be Morarji Desai’s urine therapy.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write above: Why doesn’t bollywood want to make movie about Indira Gandhi

    1. Indira Gandhi was no great figure like Rani Lakshmi of Jhansi or M.K.Gandhi…she was a mediocre politician with limited intellectual skills. Indira won the lotto when she was born to Jawaharlal Nehru. In short, there’s nothing inspiring about her life worth a film.

    2. Perhaps, Bollywood is scared of the reaction from the Nehru-Gandhi family.

if you are a minority in your own country and being bullied or harrased then you should fight for your civil rights but what is the logic behind fighting for a different nation!!?. Martin luther king, jr. fought for the blacks civil rights. He didnt fight for a new nation.

I wont be surprised if one day karunanidhi will ask for a different nation!!

You write above: I wont be surprised if one day karunanidhi will ask for a different nation!!

Tamil Nadu has some history when it comes to asking for a different nation.

On May 5, 1962, Annadurai stunned his fellow parliamentarians and the country by advocating the secession of the four south Indian states including Madras, the state he hailed from.

Annadurai mooted that India should be turned into “a comity of nations instead of a medley of disgruntled units.” Parliament was shocked and so was Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Annadurai had two complaints – discrimination against the southern states and imposition of the Hindi language.

An angry Nehru declared that the creation of Pakistan was “bad enough.” To Nehru, any more divisions would balkanize India into “thousands of bits” and he vowed to resist such secessionist demands with all force.

The atrocities by IPKF (Indian Peace Keeping Force) in Sri Lanka are well documented. They did exactly the opposite of what they were meant to do. Ever since (1986-7 onwards), LTTE has got more determined in its armed struggle. You are right that without the support of Tamils from across the world, LTTE can not sustain its activities. Also, this trend of putting one’s clan/group based on language/religion above one’s nation is disturbing.

    On reader gandhiji’s comment:
A movie called Aandhi was made by Gulzar in 1975, with fine performances by Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen.
The latter plays an ambitious woman who walks out of her love marriage, enters politics and makes it big. At that time, the movie faced some problems due to its supposed similarity with the life of Indira Gandhi (the then PM). The movie has some fine songs (Tere bina zindagi se koi shikwa to nahi, Is mod se jaate hai, Tuma aa gaye ho).
SI, please add Aandhi to your pipeline.

On SI’s response to gandhiji’s comment:
True, IG was a mediocre PM, but she had a certain stubborn streak in her which mostly worked to India’s advantage, and occasionally backfired. Though not as educated as our present PM, she was certainly not a wimp.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. Tere bina zindagi se koi shikwa to nahi is a lovely song (listening to it as we type this response).

    2. Added Aandhi to our Netflix queue. There’s been some criticism on Netflix boards that Suchitra Sen did not do a good job.

    3. Indira Gandhi started the tradition of emasculating regional satraps, which continues to this day in Congress party politics where ultimately the High Command decides everything.

As we wrote in our profile of Indira Gandhi on SearchIndia.com, The Indira era in Indian politics was marked by decline in political institutions and the ascent of sycophancy and thuggism. Her Cabinet Ministers and the Chief Ministers of her party were puppets who could be unseated anytime. In the memorable words of one of her sychophantic partymen D K Barooah, “Indira is India, India is Indira.”

    4. You write above: she was certainly not a wimp

Yes, Indira Gandhi had bigger balls than most Congress leaders of her time with the exception of a few people like Devaraj Urs. After all that he did in helping Indira win in Chikamagalur, Urs met a sad political end when the two leaders parted ways.

  4. gandhiji   October 14, 2008 at 1:03 am

she might not have been a good / intelligent person, but from what i remember from my childhood, her tenure was the most eventful tenure of all the PMs of India..

Oliver Stone, are you listening? Tabu for PM!.. she is probably too tall for portraying Indira.

As you said, the producers are probably afraid of a backlash from politicians.. they just want to keep on making dumb ass movies.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write above: her tenure was the most eventful tenure of all the PMs of India

    We disagree.

Despite all the negative elements of her reign like Emergency, breakdown of the Congress party and institutionalization of corruption, we believe it was Nehru’s decision to adopt Socialism as India’s guiding ideology that had the most impact on Indian society and polity for several decades.

    2. You write: Tabu for PM

What a coincidence. When you posted your earlier comment on this topic, we were thinking along similar lines.

  5. shuaib68   October 14, 2008 at 1:04 am

    SI’s informations are correct.
There was pogroms not only against Tamils but against Muslims as well in Sri Lanka. The incidents were many. In all of those incidents the losers were either Tamils and Muslims. Although, the Sri Lankan Muslims speak widely the tamil language they are considered a separate community.

1983 was the glorious year for the Sinhala supremasist group who belongs to the majority race in Sri Lanka.

I happened to witness the orgy of violence in 1983 against the Tamils. The majority of the Sinhala did say nothing against it. The then govt. indirectly hinted at the goondas that they are free to do anything they like. So, houses were burnt, people were torched along with their families, sometimes in their own houses and sometimes in their own vehicles when they tried to flee the attacks.

In July 13, 1983 I was at the school and the school management closed the school on that day told all the children to go home. On our way home we saw Govt. Soldiers shooting the doors of business establishments owned by the Tamils and telling the rioters to loot them. Me & some of our friends were shocked to see the soldiers shoot in front of all the people surrounded. It was heroism to them at that time. This was the backdrop of the part of the struggle.

The LTTE at that time had all the blessings from the minorities to take on the govt. forces. They did and gained much support from all over the world. The Tamil diaspora pumped all their money towards a cause which they saw as just against the atrocities committed by the goons of the majority and govt. itself.

But, later on the LTTE grown into a huge organisation with unlimited funds pouring in and they started campaigning for a separate state and did many attrocities against the ordinary people in the south (Colombo). They exploded bombs in public places, Govt. Buildings, in buses. They also drove almost all the muslim community from the Jaffna peninsula. All those driven away came to the south and still they are living as refugees in our own country.

LTTE later on became so ferocious and violent they attacked places of worship. One incident, they attacked a mosque in the east “Kattankudy” while the prayers were going on. They attacked from behind the maimed about 120 people whom were worshipping at that time. It became an act of crime that no one is going to forgive LTTE for.

Eastern Muslims, stopped giving moral support to LTTE cause. Lately, LTTE did many, many attrocities against almost all the people in the country.

They have killed more tamils than anybody else. They killed the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi which was one of their biggest mistake the LTTE did. Now, they’re reaping what they sowed.

In my opinion, LTTE must be destroyed. Sri Lanka should be rescued from terrorism of all kinds including the State Terrorism by all the govt. that ruled ever since we got our independence from the British.

LTTE’s tactics and the way of their struggle would give inspiration to others. So, they must be stopped at any rate.

People must struggle in a humane way without any killing or torture. They should keep their battle at the ballots. Peace must dawn to Sri Lanka for it will benefit all the communities. Equality must brought to all citizens regardless of Race, Religion and creed.

The sad thing is the Tamil (east/north) are the most effected and became backward during this long conflict.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Interesting eyewitness account from someone who has lived through that hellish period.

    Thanks.

Genocide – This is what happening in Sri Lanka.
Hope the writer is a NRI living in the US. Just imagine one day the american government decides to kill / chase all indians in america (for racial reason). In such a situation how much its valueable would be to get a support / help from you fellow indians?…..

The tamils in Sri Lanka need such a support atleast fromt the tamils from Tamil Nadu (tamil nadu means tamil country not tamil state – I dont know how this was approved)

LTTE – are not tamils’ heros after 1991 among indian tamils for sure. But they were before, even I do remember my school teachers selling prabaharan’s photos to raise funds..

I dont understand your stand on
supporting Sri Lankan tamils = supporting LTTE

Most of the tamils there feel LTTE is not really helping them… they are more into fighting than bringing peace…

Personally, I will, with all my heart, support the fellow tamils in Sri Lanka but not the LTTEs.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write above: The tamils in Sri Lanka need such a support atleast fromt the tamils from Tamil Nadu

Your logic would be similar to what Pakistan might use or already uses: The Muslims in Kashmir need such a support atleast from the Muslims from Pakistan (we’ve just taken your sentence and modified it)

    2. You write: tamil nadu means tamil country not tamil state

Tamil country?? You mean like Khalistan…right? And you know what happened to the Khalistanis.

    3. You write above: I dont understand your stand on supporting Sri Lankan tamils = supporting LTTE

The LTTE is under considerable pressure now after the Sri Lankan armed forces’ devastating attacks…suddenly there are protests and rallies among all circles in Tamil Nadu including one proposed by the Tamil film stars. Too much of a coincidence.

Without support from Tamils in Tamil Nadu and the Tamil diaspora, LTTE would have little staying power.

    Please read this article:
    http://www.dailynews.lk/2008/10/15/fea01.asp

It is written by a Tamil writer which appeared in the Daily News (Sri Lankan newspaper).

It will give an insight into present crisis.

  8. joeantony   October 15, 2008 at 2:34 am

There is no Genocide happening in Kashmir…
Moreover I personally feel if they want(Kashmir) to go let them get the hell out.. why we need to waste our money in military operation in that place.. let them go with pakistan or let them be a seperate country.. who cares..
their contribution to the country is nothing.. thnking rationally its just a headache to us…

LTTE are not getting great funds from TN rather they get from Tamils from Europe, canada and Australia. I am living here in TN and I couldnt feel any patronage for LTTE here. I dont know why you pull LTTE in to this scenario. Today the MPs of TN decided to quit if no action is taken by center (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Stop_Lanka_war_or_we_quit_Tamil_Nadu_MPs_to_Centre/articleshow/3596880.cms)

You simply cannot eradicate Tamils, where ever they are in the world.. the rest will support. Otherwise this will not be the race existing for thousands of years of great history.

A historical touch – Sri lanka and Tamils always had relationshiphs as early as 400 AD. formed allies with some kingdoms (mostly pandyas) and fought many wars inside TN.. you should have known about the king raja raja who invaded srilanka with a large battalion around 900 AD..
It looks like the rivalry between the Sinhalese and Tamils from those days always continue…

Do you know how many Indian-Tamil fisher men are killed by Srilankan army… what the use of being a nuke power without being able to save your citizens from tiny island nation….

The indian army is supplying hi tech equipments to SriLankan army.. The indian Navy is training them…
so that they kill the tamil fisher man accurately?

If the center cannot provide the basic need (protection of life from the enemies) to a state what is the use the state being with that country?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write above: There is no Genocide happening in Kashmir…

Genocide (like beauty) lies in the eyes of the beholder.

Human rights organizations have established massive violation of basic rights of Muslims in Kashmir and brutality of Indian armed forces in the state.

    2. The fact of the matter remains that Tamil support in India for Sri Lankan Tamils escalates when LTTE is under pressure.

Indian Tamil support for LTTE is so strong…otherwise they’d have pressured the Union Govt of India to bring LTTE leadership to justice for Rajiv Gandhi’s murder.

Why are the various political parties and Tamil film stars not holding rallies to protest against the failure of the Indian govt to bring LTTE leadership to justice for killing Rajiv Gandhi. That is because a) Tamils in India don’t care and b) Indian Tamils’ support to LTTE is greater than their love for India.

  9. shuaib68   October 15, 2008 at 6:52 am

It is an unwise move by the Tamil Film Stars to protest against the Govt. of Sri Lanka. Inspite of all the problems with LTTE and the TN (some) politicians are shedding crock-tears the SLanka govt., allows and supports in the Tamil arts field. Like allowing tamil movies to be screened and most of the tamils are living peacefully in colombo.

It was only in 1983 the riots happened and afterwards there were so many attacks carried out by LTTE but there was no reaction against the ordinary tamils living in colombo.

The fishermen problem is that the Navy suspects LTTE is getting supplies thru them from TN. That’s why. The Navy always acts with coordination with Indian intelligence and use firing to scare the fishermen to be away from the borders. The LTTE have many times attacked (in disguise) the Indian fishermen mainly to pit the accusation on the SL navy.

There are lot of twist and turns on this conflict which ordinary folks do not understand. The TN media plays a big role giving moral support to LTTE. The Sun News have never called the LTTE as Theeviravaady(Terrorists)in their news items. They instead call them as Viduthalai Puligal/LTTE urupinargal (liberation Tigers/LTTE members) whereas when they report about the insurgents in Iraq they call them “Theeviravadigal”. The western media still call them as “Insurgents” because of an invasion/occupation by a foreign power.

I wonder why TN news media twist the words according to their own wishes. Hidden Agneda??? maybe.

  10. gandhiji   October 15, 2008 at 8:49 am

Shuaib says.. “There are lot of twist and turns on this conflict which ordinary folks do not understand...”

True.. it is very tough to take a stand here.. too complex. But I pity the innocent tamils suffering because of this mess.

Malini Parthasarathy is a family member of the “The Hindu” family.. The Hindu used to be one of the best newspapers in those days.. not sure if it still is.

  11. shuaib68   October 16, 2008 at 1:15 am

Ordinary Tamils are a very decent, hardworking people. Unlike the Sinhalese, they don’t go about proclaiming the superiority of their race. Tamils in Sri Lanka for years as I can remember are very intelligent to keep hot things low profile.

They very are respectful to others. One incident I’m still proud of talking is that we saved many Tamils in our area (Grandpass) in Colombo. The grocery trade in most parts of Colombo are run by the Tamils traders. In our area (Grandpass) there were many. My mother used to buy from a certain Tamil owned shop who are very friendly and helpful. They even have given us on credit and also their goods were of good quality.

When the riots happened in 1983, the shop owner came running to our house as we were living in a lane nearby which populated with Muslim majority. My father immediately took few people from our neighbourhood and took most of the items from the shop stored in our house and all the workers in that shop remained in our small one bedroom house for 02 months. These people are from Jaffna and there were about 06 people along with my family (06 members) until the normalcy was restored during that trouble times.

Our lane that we lived is a strong area due to the Muslim majority and the youngsters in the lane saved about 03 Tamil houses from the Sinhala mobs.

My father is a brave man in that sense and I still hold him in high regard for that act, which he did when I was just a 15 year old boy at that time.

What sad about this whole incident is that the Politics made an innocent community into a fierce fighting force loosing many talented people and some of them being driven to the shores of terrorism. The present terrorism is actually a reaction to the Terror run by the Religious fanatics of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

The Tamil people were the ultimate losers as they have lost a whole generation of a good life.

One positive factor I see in this conflict is that the majority Sinhala always used bulllying tactics and mob attacks causing loss of lives. The Tamils showed them that they also can kill like them if it’s really wanted in revenge.

Now, it’s too much and enough is enough the killings. Reconciliation is the only way to rescue the remaining souls in our country. It will benefit everybody.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write above: My father is a brave man in that sense and I still hold him in high regard for that act, which he did when I was just a 15 year old boy at that time..

While official history records the feats of just a few, the noble acts of several everyday figures (like your father) almost always goes unreported.

  12. joeantony   October 16, 2008 at 2:59 am

shuaib’s article was good. But the international community feels both the govt and LTTE are responsible for the human rights issues in sri lanka. LTTE is a 100% terrorist organization, no indian would deny that after 1991.

Massacare – The European Union used this word to mention about the communal atrocities in Orissa. Is this not poking nose in India’s internal affairs?

So the Sri Lankan govt cannot escape on the ‘sovereignty’ and ‘internal affairs’ grounds.

good article shuaib… a superior country like america exploits the level 2s like india and pakistan.. the same way India obiviously has exploited SL.
Very True. Why on earth we all can live in peace?.. helping each other .. caring each other.. are all these happen only in dream? what is that we need to overcome in order to acheive it? what is it stops us from it?
Why always we think of supremacy rather than harmony..there is something wrong in very basics

  15. shuaib68   October 22, 2008 at 11:58 am

Yes, Joe. Human beings are the most dangerous living thing on this whole planet.

That’s why we have witnessed from time immemorial, so many mass murders by way of WAR and fighting. Have we seen any other being on earth causing so much destructive?

We, humans kill each other/ use our resources and brain to invent killing machines and weapons/ we destroy the environment/ we exploit the natural resources of the mother earth and all of these we (Humans) do with the full realisation of the repercussion that is surely going to come on all of us by way of natural calamities.

With a single bomb you have the ability to wipe out many lives in a second. That’s what the science has achieved in negative way.

The reason is, the perpetrators after doing their mass murder activities, take a nice rest and have a good night’s sleep in their cozy environment. The damage they cause is not felt by them. They do not know the pain a poor victim undergoes. This is the sad part.

The poor victim has no bodyguard and armour to protect his life & property. But the killers are living in well fortified fortreses with all the amenities and all the respect of a love & respect from his circles and supporters.

I think you & I can feel the pain of those innocent people who get maimed by these power hungry animals in human clothing.

They even smile and they have families and children. I wonder what those children might be feeling about their Dad & mom being the mass murderers. How would they get an explanation from the guy about all those killings…??? I simply don’t understand.

Let us protect our humanity at least,

As the war is progressing at a much anticipated speed as professed by the Govt. forces is now seems getting bogged down on various obstacles that it stumbles upon on it’s path to the much hyped “Victory” expectations.

The article by DBS Jeyaraj gives an insight to the present level of the continuing war in Sri Lanka’s nothern front. This war is seen by the main two groups the Sinhala & the Tamil as a historic event in the show of casting each ones race to be superior.
