    On the forthcoming movies:

    Heroes:
I have seen the trailers and it all appears pretty over-the-top. Not sure what Mithun and Sunny Deol are
doing in the movie. Useless fellow Sohail Khan appears rather irritating trying to show off his biceps. The movie seems to pack in too much
of a patriotic dose. Every character (esply the males) seems to be larger-than-life.
Salman appears OK and Priety Zinta looks a bit elderly.
May yet go on to become a “hit”.

    Golmaal Returns:
Going to be a rather disappointing comedy, given the track record of director Rohit Shetty, wo made Golmaal and Sunday earlier. I am not very impressed by Ajay Devgan’s “understated comic timing”. It is so understated that you wonder if it exists at all. Moreover with Tushaar Kapoor and Kareena kapoor around,
much can not be expected, notwithstanding the presence of Shreyas Talpade.

Have you seen the original Golmaal, the gold standard for comedy in Hindi Cinema, directed by that fine auteur (late) Hrishekesh Mukherjee and starring Amol Palekar and (late) Utpal Dutt ? The current Golmaal series comes across as a crude and forced attempt at comedy in comparison.

    Aegan:
Not sure why someone would want to remake Main Hoon Naa, which in itself was no great shakes, although it was an entertainer, largely due to Shah Rukh and the music, and decent acts from Sushmita Sen and Amrita Rao, although Zayed Khan was irritating.
Trouble is, Ajith is no SRK.

BTW, I watched 3.10 to Yuma and rather liked it.
Russe Crowe of course is dangerously charismatic as Ben Wade, but I thought Christian Bale has done a decent job as well given the character he had to essay. The background score, and the music accompanying the closing credits are also good.

I am looking forward to Fashion, that is supposed to be a take on how the fashion industry (in India) works.
The director, Madhur Bhandarkar, pays attention to details, something that most Bollywood directors dont bother. Check out Chandni Bar (Tabu), Page 3 (Konkana Sen Sharma), Corporate and Traffic Signal (Kunal Khemu).

    1. You write: I have seen the trailers and it all appears pretty over-the-top. Not sure what Mithun and Sunny Deol are
    doing in the movie.

The only Deols who can act are Dharmendra and Abhay Deol (Manorama Six Feet Under).

We have a hard time figuring out who is worse – Sunny Deol or Bobby Deol.

    2. You write above: I am not very impressed by Ajay Devgan’s “understated comic timing”. It is so understated that you wonder if it exists at all.

Very true. We have not been swayed by Ajay Devgan’s so-called acting capabilities either unlike some of the other visitors to this blog.

    3. Regarding Aegan, you write: Trouble is, Ajith is no SRK.

Truth be said, Ajith is not even comparable to an over-the-top comedian like Vadivelu.

    4. Have you seen the original Golmaal, the gold standard for comedy in Hindi Cinema

Will watch it on Sunday or Monday.

We think we had the Golmaal and Chitchor records (those vinyl things that are now antiques). Watching, rather listening to Aanewala song now…nice song.

    5. There’s a screening of Fashion on Friday, Oct 24 at AMC Loews 19th & Broadway in NYC as part of the South Asian International Film Festival.

    6. Check out Chandni Bar (Tabu), Page 3 (Konkana Sen Sharma), Corporate and Traffic Signal (Kunal Khemu).

    We will.

    hi all,
i am damn sure that aegan’s gonna suck our life out, you heard the music , when i heard i was one minute away from breaking the cd. so , prepare yourself before going to see aegan.

regarding the other two non indian movies, i dont know about “character” , but ” forrest ” is a good one , i dont how you always fall for sick and insane movies leaving classics like “forrest” , one more thing you wanna see better acting from tom hanks than “forrest gump” watch “philadelphia”

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Regarding Aegan, let’s wait to see the movie before we pass any judgment.

Aegan has two bad things going for it already.. The Main Hoon Na story and Nayantara..

I don’t hate Ajith as much as you do.. in fact I think he is alright. He did pretty well in movies like Aasai(where he was fairly new), Mugavari, Wall-E and Kandukondain squared..

But I hate Nayantara and Sushmita Sen with the same passion as you do.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write above: I don’t hate Ajith as much as you do.. But I hate Nayantara and Sushmita Sen with the same passion as you do.

    Wrong.

We don’t hate anyone. Life’s too short for love or hatred.

    We only hate bad movies.

  4. gandhiji   October 24, 2008 at 9:12 pm

One of you has written about Sushmita/Nayantara in his/her Main Hoon Na review:

Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen with her sari obscenely draped around her massive bosom was a revolting sight and a monument to crudity.

Sushmita Sen is one of the most graceless Indian creatures on screen – rivaled only by the Southern bimbos Nayantara and Trisha – and her costumes in Main Hoon Na made her look worse.

I misunderstood those loving words for hatred 🙂

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

There’s a difference between hating someone and disliking the portrayal of a role on the screen in a movie.

Although the words “on screen” is part of the sentence quoted by you above, you seem to have ignored it.

We are not in the hate business.

As we have said ad nauseum, ad infinitum, life is too short for love or hatred.

  5. gandhiji   October 25, 2008 at 12:41 am

exactly.. I don’t hate them.. I dislike them on screen. 🙂

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write above: exactly.. I don’t hate them..

Really, just a few comments above, you were ejaculating (in the Wodehousian sense) – But I hate Nayantara and Sushmita Sen …

  6. gandhiji   October 25, 2008 at 10:40 am

My other post (under the Aegan review) where I said “ejaculating” was censured.. what happened to free speech.. 🙂 I also meant it in the Wodehousian sense.. whatever that means.

Anyway, hate is a form of dislike.. according to the thesaurus.. As I qualified it with “with the same passion as you”.., I am exonerated.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=“we+hate”+site:searchindia.com&btnG=Search
    yielded 4 things you hate

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=“we+hated”+site:searchindia.com&btnG=Search
    yielded 2 things you hated

The key to that search was the royal “We”

I wanted to search for the other variants of hate.. but am too lazy.

I know that I can’t get the last word against the site owner.. but I have lot of free time today.. until a potluck diwali dinner with minimal alcohol.. I hate.. err.. dislike potluck dinners where they don’t serve a lot of alcohol.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write above: I know that I can’t get the last word against the site owner..

We are just a humble Coolie here working for slave wages.

    2. You write: My other post (under the Aegan review) where I said “ejaculating” was censured.. …I also meant it in the Wodehousian sense

    Your comment is here.

    3. You write: dislike potluck dinners where they don’t serve a lot of alcohol

We are badly craving a drink too, actually two or three (after watching Aegan).

Are you going to watch “Synecdoche, New York”…
I have a feeling that you like everything New Yorky..

I like Heath’s ex-girl Michelle Williams.. another one of those quirky beauties.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write above: Are you going to watch “Synecdoche, New York”…

    Maybe.

You write: I have a feeling that you like everything New Yorky..

NYC is becoming more Disneyfied, gentrified…the grit, seedy/rough neighborhods, the undercurrent of tension are not as evident now. Not sure, if it’s good or bad.
