With each win, all I can think of is, “Suck it Bachchan!”

Also after each shot of Anil Kapoor cheering each win from the audience, all I can think of is, “Hahahha SRK and The Big B! You guys suck! That could have been you!”

The performance of the songs was pretty awesome, up until the end when John Legend and AR Rahman were kind of dueling with each other, which was obviously scripted or choreographed that way. It probably looked good on paper but came off really awkward. Still though, it was definitely electrifying to see O Saya and Jai Ho performed in front of that kind of crowd.

It feels great, i was in the exam hall when i received the message that our mozart of madras won two oscars and when i said to others in the hall the entire class room was screaming for five minutes and some even danced in joy. Since we are fans of rahman,we planned to visit his house today evening. Can you give us any other ideas about how to celebrate this evening? It’s a very special evening.

Make a positive difference in another person’s life (by signing up for organ donation or donating blood).

We celebrate our lives but we often forget that so many others are not that fortunate in life.

Ya you r right, i am a regular blood donor, for every 6 months i donate, but for donating organs i have to get permmision from my parents, any way i will donate since i am a non believer of god i dont have any sentiments.

I let “Jai Ho” blare out on my ride today.. feeling very proud..

My claim to celebrity is that ARR is married to the cousin of my ex-roommate.. and he was the classmate (in PSBB) of a friend in 4th grade, when he was “Dilip”.

It is not the best Rahhhhman (Alicia Keys and the guy got all their phlegm out).. but still was a good representation of “bollywood” music.

The WALL-E song was completely overwhelmed by the ARR show..

Alas, we have no such high claims on celebrities.

Wait, we’ve heard relatives whisper that our ancestors were generals in the army of Shivaji (not the Rajinikant version…but the real guy, you know the Maratha warrior).

I feel really happy that Sampooran Singh Gulzar, a powerhouse of multifaceted talent has been awarded an Oscar. Gulzar has excelled as a poet, a lyricist and a director, and while Jay Ho is not his best work, he is a deserving artist. Just as The Departed wasnt Scorcese’s best work, but no one would deny that he deserved it for his body of work.
Gulzar has consistently written meaningful and soulful lyrics. Recently, it seems, Shah Rukh Khan approached him with a request to include the words “Love mera hit hit” in one of his songs for Billu Barber. Gulzarsaab, rather politely asked SRK, to f***off.

While one feels happy to see Rahman and Gulzar being recognized on an international platform, one also feels sad that a lot of talent doesnt make it big even within India, because the instruments of moviemaking are in the hands of a very mediocre few, and it is extremely hard for outsiders to penetrate this closed group.

It took an outsider (Boyle) to bring out some Indian talents, and this fact has riled many in Bollywood, including Mr.Bachchan.

Hope that the slew of awards for Slumdog inspires some moviemakers in India to up their quality and get an Oscar entirely on their own.

BTW, Danny Boyle’s list of must see Indian movies is headed by Satya.

    Life’s bloody unfair.

    2. Satya was a lovely movie.

    Danny will probably like it.

guruprasad.s made a very good point, which I’m sure we all know exists but he helped make it a little clearer.

“…a lot of talent doesnt make it big even within India, because the instruments of moviemaking are in the hands of a very mediocre few, and it is extremely hard for outsiders to penetrate this closed group.”

Bollywood is extremely incestuous. The films are created using an extremely small genepool of directors, writers, actors, musicians, choreographers, etc. The same pool just keeps mating with each other over and over to create the same crap without getting any variation from someone or something else entering the pool.

Finally, an outsider (Danny Boyle) has successfully pierced the gene pool, taken a small selection of the existing genes (Irrfan Khan, Anil Kapoor, AR Rahman, one or two others) and paired them with an entirely new, different, and vast genepool to produce something entirely original. The result is a brand new healthy baby vs. just another baby conceived through an incestuous relationship.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Very true.

Depressing that so much song and dance is made over such depressingly mediocre performers.

My claim to fame is that the same set of teachers who taught me taught ARR at PSBB 🙂 Eitherways, its an extremely beautiful moment for indian music that this has happened. No better award than the Oscar, and no better indian to win it than ARR himself. Bow to him!
