Rewatching Slumdog Millionaire

We first watched Slumdog Millionaire in December last year.

And liked it immensely. We predicted it would walk away with a big haul of awards and indeed it did.

We’d been waiting for the DVD to watch the movie again and the Slumdog DVD arrived three or four days ago.

Cheapos
But we were reluctant to fork out $17 for the DVD.

And since like all cheapo desis we find it hard to resist the lure of a freebie, we trooped over to a Redbox kiosk (free rental on Mon and Wed with a code) a short while ago and picked up the Slumdog Millionaire DVD.

We’ll update this post once we finish rewatching the movie.

Update:
Unfortunately, our DVD did not have the usual special features like deleted scenes, interviews et al except trailers for a bunch of movies.

While the second time’s never as much fun 😉 , we nevertheless enjoyed watching the Slumdog Millionaire DVD.

We still think the kids did a great job and we still don’t think the grownups (Dev Patel and Freida Pinto) did a great job.

Nice lines from the movie:

* What the hell can a slumdog possibly know
* It’s bizarrely plausible
* Well, well, the slumdog barks

What would be really nice to know and get a review on are the DVD features/extras. How are the deleted scenes, interviews, behind the scenes documentaries, etc.?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Alas, the DVD we borrowed from Redbox had nothing extra, zilch.

When we clicked special features, all we got was a bunch of trailers for movies like Notorious, The Other End of the Line…. Was it just our DVD…Who knows.

    http://www.switched.com/2009/03/06/fox-removing-special-features-from-rental-dvd-and-blu-ray-movies/

but looks like FOX screwed up their experiment.. I saw this alert on Amazon.
DVD Alert: We are aware that special features were missing from a number of Slumdog Millionaire DVDs. This issue does not occur on the Blu-ray version. Fox has set up a hotline telephone number (1-888-223-4FOX) for those consumers who may have purchased a DVD version that does not contain special features. Upon calling the hotline, these consumers will be able to have their disc replaced for one containing special features. Fox regrets any inconvenience this has caused.

“The Blu-ray release comes with some quality extras including a nice making-pf featurette, 12 deleted scenes, a look at the classic “toilet scene,” a music video, and more.”

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Thanks for the link.

No wonder, our Redbox DVD did not have all those Special Features.

See this original story in Variety. What a bunch of Greedy Scumbags.

The line i liked best was :

“If it weren’t for Ram and Allah we would have had a mother now”

(Not sure if the wordings are exact!!!!)

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Yeah. That was a nice line too.

This is what Jamal (Dev Patel) tells the Inspector (Irrfan Khan):

If it weren’t for Ram and Allah, we’d still have a mother…

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

It’s raining heavily on the East Coast now. Weather forecast today in the North-East is for thunder-storms.

So, will most probably see Ayan tomorrow. Forecast for Sat is just ‘Winds’ but no Thunder Storms.
