It is the duty of every thoughtful Indian not to marry. In case he is helpless in regard to marriage, he should abstain from sexual intercourse with his wife.

Hmm, it is as good as saying every Indian should starve to death so that the other one can get his share of food.
Gandhi was a great man, but I find that even great men become senile.
“he should abstain from sexual intercourse with his wife.”… I am always under the firm belief that Sex to a married couple is as good as food to a hungry stomach. Sex is an essential, though not the ONLY, part of a good married life. Gandhi’s word sounded so absurd, no wonder his own ashram inmates hated him for such absurd remarks. I absolutely abhor such stupid sayings.
The more I read of Gandhi, the more I lose respect for him.

Now you know why Indian men are desperate to screw their maids and Indian women are desperate to screw their drivers and gardeners.
All because of Gandhi. 😉
Why is it a duty of every Indian? Was that his strategy to reduce our population? 🙂
This sentence is incomplete. Is he promoting prostitution?
I feel nothing but sympathy for Kasturba

No, Gandhi was promoting the interests of maids (vis-a-vis Indian men) and drivers and gardeners (vis-a-vis Indian women).
Now you know why he’s called Mahatma. Our beloved Bapu held the interests of the lower-class Indians close to his heart. 😉
Personally i think gandhiji should have addressed this to the americans, particularly the people in my job search class who all had premarital pregnancies and who dont pay child support. at least 5 people from my original high school class all have at least one bastard (in the truest sense of the term) and some of them aren’t even together with the guy that got them pregnant!
Americans (i can say this since I’m American myself and have personally witnessed this) are shameless and if you dont believe me,turn on MTV’s “16 and pregnant” show on and you’ll get where im going with this.

Many years back, Time magazine had a cover story on babies having babies.
