What is DuckDuckGo?

Yes, I know, I know, I know that Indians are the most dishonest chutiyas in any galaxy.

Expecting honesty from these gaandus is kinda like expecting Abhishek Bachchan to improve his IQ or Salman Khan to embrace Ahimsa! πŸ˜‰

Still, it’d give me immense pleasure if you all could answer this poll on DuckDuckGo without googling the question.

Please, I really, really want you to answer the poll without seeking help from the Internet.

Just follow your instincts while picking the answers from the five choices.

Now, if I find there are too many right answers in the poll, I will assume that you chutiyas googled for the answer! πŸ™

Comprende?

Be honest for once in your lives!

Please don’t read the comments either until you answer the poll!

I dont understand why this is a big deal.

Dude we are way forward in technology than u can dream of if you think we wouldnt know this.!

Agree sir! The hand that codes also makes great dung patties. πŸ˜‰ http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9WoXjebtgy0

Jokes aside, I doubt many people are aware of DuckDuckGo even here.

Some people who constantly follow techcrunch might be aware of this.

But I’ll be honest and say, I missed this piece.

Any post coming up on the facebook phone?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write: But I’ll be honest and say, I missed this piece.

I’m not surprised because there’s so much happening in the world and our interests are varied.

That’s why I disagree with the earlier commenter Sriram Seshadri that DuckDuckGo is something a lot of people know.

It’s a fallacy that what we know is universally known.

Even in the Internet age that is not true because although the net has made information easily accessible it has also expanded the amount of knowledge available a billion-fold leading us to dabble in a lot more areas than previously possible.

    2. Facebook event? It’s happening today. I’ll look at it.

I remain convinced that Facebook is nothing more than an advertising machine to enrich Mark Zuckerberg’s coffers.

Yes, even I am not that active in Facebook nowadays as I used to be initially. Logging in once in a month. No likes. No comments.

To “Be Social” virtually is just not useful.

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

But a billion people think otherwise! πŸ˜‰

I use DuckDuckgo occasionally, they don’t log your searches like Google does and respect user’s privacy. I am just wondering how they are planning to make money.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. I have tested it for routine stuff like “Indian restaurants in XXXXX) and find it decent.

Not sure how it’ll fare when it comes to esoteric stuff.

Google is better when it comes to responding to a question with a clear answer.

    2. Money?

Other than advertising, I can’t see any other option for DuckDuckGo except perhaps licensing their technology to Facebook kind of companies who don’t want to work with Google or Yahoo/Bing.

If it does not log the user’s queries, how is it going to improve over a period of time?

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

      Good question.

You can log the queries without logging the IP number associated with the query.

Ha Ha. Yes, I know that. πŸ™‚

The statement “They don’t log your searches like Google does” – forms two meanings at least, and I derived the second one – i.e, they don’t log at all. πŸ™‚

Google seems to have acknowledged it as competitor, but ironically – we use google to navigate to it. Long way to go to give a tough competition.

@SI. I never meant to say that ” what I know is universally known. ”

But the hype you gave is not worthy. People following tech news would know it. You just made some randomness and swearing us for our dishonesty and shit. You probably got excited like a small kid when you actually knew duckduckgo just before posting this.!

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Given that even some techie readers of SI are unaware of duckduckgo, highlighting it is fine.

I still maintain that duckduckgo has low awareness overall…..and my fundamental point was to expand awareness about it through the poll. Being aware of a choice is as important as the existence of a choice!

Not everyone reads techcrunch, the verge, allthingsD, macrumors or arstechnica.
