Hooray, Melissa Leo won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar this evening for a great performance in The Fighter.

This is Melissa’s first Academy Award.

She was nominated two years back for Frozen River, a movie we enjoyed immensely.

Kirk Douglas presented the award to Melissa.

And the other nominees were:

Folks, the biggest annual event of the motion picture industry – the 83rd Academy Awards aka Oscars – is upon us.

Oscars are the granddaddy of movie awards.

You get an Oscar once and all your life and, hey, even on your epitaph, there’s the prefix Oscar-Winner attached to your name.

The Oscar hosts this evening are Anne Hathaway and James Franco.

Hollywood legend and two-time Academy Award winner Tom ‘Forrest Gump’ Hanks will present the first award this evening.

The India vs England ICC 2011 World Cup Cricket match in Bengaluru (India) today is one of the finest one-day matches we’ve ever seen.

Who’d have thought the match would end in a tie!

Un-F*cking-Believable.

The fortunes of the two teams kept seesawing this way and the other.

First, India had the upper hand with a decent total of 338.

The highlight of India’s inning was a dashing 120 by – who elseSachin Tendulkar.

Then, England came into bat and were quickly on top with solid batting led by skipper Andrew Strauss who scored a superb 158.

It seemed certain that India would be defeated.

Many spectators even left the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru thinking it was all over!

At this crucial juncture, England lost a string of wickets in quick succession.

The complexion of the match changed now – It could now go either way.

We couldn’t contain our excitement. Ditto for the millions of cricket fans watching.

Finally, in what’s easily one of the most thrilling matches in a World Cup the result was a tie.

Yes, a tie schmucks. Both teams scored 338.

England Captain Andrew Strauss won the Man of the Match award.
