SI Thrilled – Ram Leela Scores Big at BO

I’m pleased as punch!

So pleased and thrilled that I’ve opened a bottle of Soju to celebrate, my poor health notwithstanding.

Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s lovely film Ram Leela has done remarkably well at the U.S. box office.

Pssst, Ram Leela has done better than even the super-hero film Krrish 3.

For the opening November 15-17, 2013 weekend, Ram Leela raked in $1.45 million at the U.S. box office!

Ram Leela is a fine film and deserves all the accolades and riches at the box office.

As the peerless SI wrote last week after watching Ram Leela at a theatre on the U.S. East Coast:

The genius of Ram Leela director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is to Indianize and contemporarize Shakespeare’s eternal love saga Romeo and Juliet, and meld it with nonpareil visual imagery, decent acting and above average music.

If you haven’t watched Ram Leela, all I can say is you’re missing out on the rare Bollywood film worth watching.

Here’s how Ram Leela fared at the U.S. box office compared to a few prominent Bollywood films:

Quite a big number for a film whose male lead isn’t a big star.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Have you seen the movie, sweetie?

I know you love Hollywood & foreign classics but Not all Bollywood movies are garbage!

I can barely type after a 3/4 bottle of Soju!

Its really a pleasant surprise that a non Khan/Kapoor movie is a success.

I hope more actors without family connections will start getting opportunities after this.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

I’m so sloshed on Soju it’d be a miracle if there were no typos in my response!

Have you seen Ram Leela, sweetie? It’s running in AMC 25 in Times Square, not far from where you work!

Amitabh blogs yesterday ” Saw Ram Leela thrice in the last 24 hours”

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Budda has some class!

    Dear SI,

While as logged user I cannot edit my profile, so how to change my password to something that I can remember even after having a full bottle of SOJU?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

One of our readers explained the process last year in a comment that I’m reproducing below verbatim:

You can use the “Lost your Password?” option found under this link:

    http://www.searchindia.com/wp-login.php

This mails you a link where you can reset your password. And, After you reset – you’re taken to profile page which again says – ‘Permission Denied’. But, don’t care.

Just hit SearchIndia.com and re-login. You should be OK. I did this few days ago. (Well, faced the same problem like you reading it from – Mobile, Desktop, and iPad.)

Offtopic: Whats your take on the big lok sabha elections coming up next year, also the four assembly elections in delhi, chattisgarh, rajasthan, madhya pradesh.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Since the Indian people are for the most part chutiyas, their leaders are a reflection of themselves. Not surprisingly, Parliament and state legislatures are full of criminals and thugs.

I’d be extremely surprised if the Congress party returns to power. Manmohan Singh’s govt has proved to be hopelessly inept and corrupt (like all previous govts in India).

But the BJP are no saints either.

If Modi rides to power on the disillusionment wave, you can be sure there won’t be a Ram Rajya.

SI said”If Modi rides to power on the disillusionment wave, you can be sure there won’t be a Ram Rajya.”

Nobody is expecting Ram Rajya, but what they are expecting is a few dozens of looteras (thieves) instead of a few thousand looteras (Congress MPs and MLAs).

Let’s face it, we have to either choose between Congress (Slow Poison in the 80s, now CYANIDE) and BJP (Slow poison for now). As a voter, I will rather choose slow poison. But I bet people here will differ. Afterall, this country is filled with educated idiots, who will root for the Congress just because they call themselves secular….. (For heaven’s sake, I wish someone can buy these folks an Oxford Dictionary so that they can understand the true meaning of secularism)

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

As I’ve said in the past, the best form of government is Limited Democracy a la Singapore.

hi, r u planning to watch Selvaraghavan’s irandam ulagam?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

No, because the nearest theatre involves a driving distance of 340 km (round-trip).

  8. Arun s   November 25, 2013 at 1:55 pm

Irandam Ulagam is above average film.

But Arya is becoming unbearable and so would suggest SI to skip it.

And also requesting to skip R…Rajkumar considering SI is in bad health. Hope it would the first flop for Prabudeva.

Such mind-numbing trailer I have not seen of late.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

No intention of subjecting myself to Irandan Ulagam, given all the negative stuff I’ve heard about it!

I saw the trailer of R…Rajkumar thrice in theatres over the last two months.

The sight of Shahid Kapoor screaming Pyaar, Pyaar, Pyaar and Maar, Maar, Maar is intolerable!

I suspect Ranveer Singh will make Chutney out of the second tier Bollywood actors like Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham etc.
