Delhi 6 Falling, Falling, Falling – Down 75%

Abhishek Bachchan’s latest crap-show Delhi 6 has failed to work wonders in its opening weekend at the U.S. box office.

Well, what do you expect. With his non-existent acting skills, Abhishek Bachchan is the kiss of death for a Bollywood movie.

Like most of Abhishek’s previous movies, Delhi 6 is also mediocre shit.

Stay Away from Delhi 6
Folks, if you haven’t gone to this movie consider yourself wiser than the rest of us.

Delhi 6 opened at No-23 in the U.S. and had an unimpressive total opening weekend gross of $602,850.

The movie opened in 90 theatres and had an average of $6,698.

By the way, Delhi 6 did worse than Abhishek Bachchan’s previous crap movie, that perverse Bollywood abomination Dostana.

Here’s how Delhi 6 fared compared to a few other prominent Bollywood movies in the opening weekend at the U.S. box office:

The magnificent success of Slumdog Millionaire, both at the box office and at the Oscars last night, has cast a dark shadow over Bollywood.

What a humiliating insult to Bollywood, that an outsider like Danny Boyle comes to Mumbai, the movie capital of India, makes an amazingly entertaining movie like Slumdog Millionaire on a budget of just $15 million, with a cast of ‘slumdogs’ and walks away with all the glory.

Eight Oscars, no less.

Folks, with few exceptions Bollywood = Thieves+Mediocrity.

No question about it, dear reader.

Thieves – Yes, Yes, Yes
Look at the staggering number of movies these Bollywood swines have stolen over the years: Ghajini, Partner, Heyy Baby, God Tussi Great Ho, Kidnap, The Killer, U Me Aur Hum, Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Ek Ajnabee, Saroja, Thenali,…the list is endless.

Yes, most of our cheapo Bollywood heroes, heroines, directors and producers are beneficiaries of theft.

Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Salman Khan, Surya, Riteish Deshmukh, Murugadoss, Venkat Prabhu et al are all beneficiaries of theft.

And this wretched beneficiary of theft Amitabh ‘Big Mouth’ Bachchan whines about Slumdog Millionaire projecting India’s dirty side.

Truly sir, the Amitabh Bachchans, Akshay Kumars and Kamal Haasans have no shame. Absolutely no shame at all.

Mediocrity
If shameless stealing is one side of the Bollywood coin, the other side is mediocrity. Continue reading »

Uncork the Champagne, folks.

Right now. And that is an order.

In the ultimate insult to the know-nothing cretins of Bollywood, the hugely entertaining movie Slumdog Millionaire won the Best Picture Oscar at the 81st Annual Academy Awards this evening.

Slumdog Millionaire beat out The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk and The Reader to win the great honor.

Slumdog Millionaire’s success at the Oscars is no secret to readers of the SearchIndia.com blog. As we wrote in December:

An Oscar-worthy gem and the finest movie made in India this century, Slumdog Millionaire (based on the novel Q and A by Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup) is coming to India in January.

Slumdog Millionaire Director Danny Boyle and the young kids deserve all the kudos for making this an extraordinary entertainer. It’s a mighty shame that the adults, whether Anil Kapoor, Dev Patel or Freida Pinto, did not put in the same passion into the movie.

As SearchIndia.com wrote in the review of this must-see movie two months ago:

Slumdog Millionaire is not merely a magnificent movie but it’s also the most absorbing portrait of India we’ve seen on the big screen.

And that’s what raises Slumdog Millionaire to the level of a classic – its amazing portrayal of the wonder and chaos and injustice that’s India.

The filthy slums, the abject poverty, the Hindu-Muslim violence, the Bollywood craze, cricket mania, Mumbai underworld, horrific exploitation of young children, the ‘new’ India rising over the demolished slums of Mumbai, police brutality, the call centers, inexplicable goodness in some souls, the packed commuter trains et al – nay, the very essence of India is distilled and captured with unusual verve and dexterity in the moving story of Slumdog Millionaire.

Hey, director Danny Boyle seizes on, and brings to life, even the Indian fascination with Amitabh Bachchan.

This fine movie has already picked up seven other Oscars tonight - for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Sound Mixing, Editing, Best Original Score and Best Original Song and Cinematography.
