India vs South Africa; Shame, India LOSES

India won the toss and elected to bat in this match against South Africa at Nagpur.

Huge crowd on this Saturday to watch the local boys.

As usual, India goes in with a strong batting lineup.

It’s 4.04AM on the U.S. East Coast.

Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar are at the crease.

We expect India will win this match. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Not sure now, after India’s batting collapse. ๐Ÿ™

India – Great Start, Bad End
India had a great start with a Run Rate of over 8 Runs in the initial overs.

Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar were in a punishing mood.

It looked like India would easily reach a minimum of 350 and maybe even higher.

But after the departure of Sehwag and Tendulkar, the Indian batting literally fell apart. India lost 9 wickets for 29 Runs. Can it get any worse, folks?

Alas, India failed to even reach 300, ultimately ending with 296-10.

For their part, South African batsmen kept their cool and despite the loss of wickets kept the runs flowing.

For his superb bowling (5 wickets for 50 Runs), Dale Steyn deservedly got the Man of the Match award.

wow india wat a performance, from 267 for1 to 296 all out,and one more thing this is dhoni worstest performance as a batsmen, even though gambhir scored 69 runs,he wasted to many balls, sachin and sehwag played brilliantly, still have hopes ,296 not a bad score, lets see wat happens

    SearchIndia,com Responds:

    We’re worried. Very worried. ๐Ÿ™

    • rakeshbaba   March 12, 2011 at 8:05 am

wat do you think about gambhir’s shitty selfish innings, when gambhir came in india’s runrate was 8.5,after ten overs it dips down to 6.5,gambhir didn’t gave much strike to sachin, he puts pressure on all other batsmen, gambhir boo boo

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

Well, at least Gambhir scored some runs (69 from 75 balls), slow as it was initially. He managed some nice Sixers too.

Others were worse, failing to score any runs.

      • rakeshbaba   March 12, 2011 at 8:11 am

India should have taken the batting powerplay when they were 128 for 0 after 15 overs, poor decision

      • Aswin_Kini   March 13, 2011 at 2:38 am

@Rakesh: I am not sure we can blame Gambhir. But I do blame Dhoni for promoting himself ahead of the in-form Kohli in the order. He also did the same against England and we all know what happened. Dhoni, I think either too much of his batting capabilities or is very self-centered. First, he slows down the batting tempo, 12 in 27 balls when the team needed him the worst.

@SI: Dhoni is perhaps making the worst decisions when India needs him the most. I feel he has many personal agendas. First, he used to always recommend Ravindra Jadeja inspite of his pathetic performances. Then, he tried to underline Sehwag which lead to Media rumors of a rift in the team. Then, he prevents Aswin from getting World Cup exposure citing Trivial reasons. To top it all, he promotes himself ahead of Kohli up the order inspite of knowing that the situation required someone who could manipulate the strike.

I am sorry to say this, I thought Dhoni was supposed to the next Indian hope, but he is turning out to be another self-centered Indian captain like Azharuddin.

If you don;t believe me, look at the Indian XI since Dhoni has come. How many stars did he create? How many youngsters made into the team? When ganguly was at the helm, he gave chances to many youngsters and backed them to perform. if you look at Dhoni’s side, Yuvraj, Kaif, Nehra, Gambhir, and even Dhoni himself all became stars only because Ganguly backed them up.
Dhoni, unlike Ganguly, relies too much of the regular players and doesn;t back up youngsters. I am sorry to say this, he is an overhyped hope. If he continues in this rein, India will come out of the WC in the quarters itself.

        SearchIndia.com Responds:

        Interesting points.

But we hope you are wrong about Dhoni’s decision-making skills because if you are right then it’s bye-bye World Cup.

  3. logu   March 12, 2011 at 8:01 am

That was a horrendous display by the middle order similar to the horror show pakistan put up against NZ the other day..
From 267/1 to 296 all out with 2 more overs to go… That’s fuckin ridiculous. Dont have words to vent my anger.
One of the worst batting display by our captain who’s hailed as the greatest ever .. who the f*ck would take a single of the first ball and expose ur tail to a lethal fast bowler bowling with a lot of fire… Steyn displayed what you call “The mother of all comebacks” after a disastrous start…

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    India will likely lose.

And India deserves to lose after the disgusting batting collapse. ๐Ÿ™

    • logu   March 12, 2011 at 1:42 pm

. First of all, congrats to SA for holding their nerves and putting one across India. Yes, they did deserved to lose after a horrid display of batting combined with poor piece of captaincy. Did you notice in the last few overs each player from different corners of the field came in to say something which shows that normally cool dhoni was choking under pressure and didn’t have any enough control to marshal his men.

Anyway, this worldcup has produced the most nerve wracking of games and the WC could not have asked for more. We enjoyed it thoroughly and we are sure you did too.

  4. เฎฎเฏเฎฉเฎฟAndy   March 12, 2011 at 9:11 am

What Sachin and Sehwag did was probably was unfair for the rest of the batsmen.. made them look like fools trying to emulate the masters.. this looks like a difficult pitch to bat on. Those two are muchhhhhhhh more talented than the rest of the Indian batsmen.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Forget, trying to emulate the masters.

The rest of the crew made asses of themselves! ๐Ÿ™

BTW, isn’t the Nagpur pitch better suited for batsmen. We think so.

    • Aswin_Kini   March 13, 2011 at 2:44 am

India wasted a good start by Sachin and Sehwag yet again. As SI said, the rest of the Indian batting made asses of themselves, thanks to Dhoni, who caused the mini collapse by batting slow and promoting himself of the talented Kohli.

The Real Culprit is collapse of Indian batting after Tendulkar’s exit.

      • rakeshbaba   March 12, 2011 at 12:27 pm

yeah, dhoni played very badly by giving bowlers to play in the end,but one good thing is that, indias fielding is some what better today, lets see how india will play in semis

        • เฎฎเฏเฎฉเฎฟAndy   March 12, 2011 at 1:25 pm

err… don’t they have to win the QF before playing in the semis.

If they are 2nd in B, they’ll face 3rd in group A – that is currently Pakistan. Maybe they threw this game to face Pak in the QF. I am totally desensitized to India’s losses after watching the 2003 final nightmare.

  7. kd36939   March 12, 2011 at 2:04 pm

Morning SI. What a disaster. This is unacceptable performance. Even more unacceptable is the whiners whining that “Tendulkar is not a match winner..blah blah”.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Belated Good Morning.

But for the batting collapse, we’d have had a solid chance of victory.

Do you think they deliberately threw their wickets? Bookies involved? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • kd36939   March 12, 2011 at 11:15 pm

Considering the rigid guidelines set forth by ICC on players and the popularity of the game (lots of eyes and ears on this one), I doubt bookies could pull off such a thing. But who knows, as you say, anything is possible in “humara bharat mahan” ๐Ÿ˜‰

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

Match fixing does have rewards in India – Azharaduddin is a ‘respected‘ Congress MP now.

  8. logu   March 12, 2011 at 10:33 pm

People pointing fingers at sachin or gambhir must realize that, if not them India’s total would have been miserable and the match would have ended like a 20/20. I firmly believe these two are the technically sound batsmen in the present line up and others should take a cue out of them on how to build an innings.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

But for Sachin & Gambhir, we’d have barely made three-figures.

Off-topic: National Treasure is playing on USA channel. Rubbish, the last 20 or 30 minutes we’ve seen…starting from the library and now into the caves.

    • Aswin_Kini   March 13, 2011 at 2:48 am

Off topic, I watched the film, She-Creature, a low-budget, horror film, starring the talented actress Carla Gugino and Rya Kihlstedt.

At first sight, I thought that this was yet another cheap hollywood film with cliches galore, but then I was wrong. The film is built on a wafer thin story, but supported well by good screenplay, decent acting, and a gory climax.

Try watching it. But i must warn you that the film is very slow in pace, but a decent watch anyways.

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

She Creature is currently not available on Netflix but the movie has several positive reviews from members (so, Netflix must have carried the DVD at one time). BTW, we like mermaid films (but not horror). Have seen one or two in the distant past.

  11. sunnysonu   March 16, 2011 at 6:08 pm

Any thoughts of India progessing beyond QF with such a weak bowling and pathetic fielding ?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

These matches are hard to predict.

But after the last match (against South Africa) even our batting looks shaky. We lost like 9 wickets for 26 something runs. ๐Ÿ™

Not that optimistic lately of India lifting the World Cup.
