Sarkar Raj has crashed at the U.S. box office in its second week.

This trashy Bollywood movie’s second weekend gross was down by 73.8%. (Please click here for Sarkar Raj opening weekend gross collection data.)

Featuring the three Bachchans, Sarkar Raj is a piece of trash from Ram Gopal Varma, the director who last year brought us one of the ugliest films ever made in the history of motion pictures – Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Sarkar Raj has all the ingredients of a disaster – pathetic performances by Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, so-so performance by Amitabh Bachchan, mediocre story, cliched dialogs, pedestrian photography and music, and bizarre chants (Govinda, Govinda).

In the overall ranking at the U.S. box office, Sarkar Raj slipped to Continue reading »

Even the presence of three members of Bollywood’s first family – the Bachchans – couldn’t save their pathetic new movie Sarkar Raj from a ho-hum reception at the U.S. box office.

Despite the presence of Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Sarkar Raj grossed a mere $642,523 in its opening weekend (June 6-8, 2008) at the U.S. box office, which is less than even Ajay Devgan’s U Me Aur Hum.

Released in 70 theaters, Sarkar Raj opened at No-11 at the U.S. box office and had an average gross of $9,178.

Bhoothnath is a disaster at the U.S. box office.

This crap of a movie grossed a pitiful $330,246 in its opening weekend (May 9-11, 2008) in the U.S.

Eros Entertainment was the distributor for Bhoothnath in the U.S.

It’s no surprise that Bhoothnath was a damp squib at the box office here. As SearchIndia.com wrote last week:

Some Bollywood movies hit the big screen more dead than alive.

Like the scarily mediocre Bhoothnath, for instance.

There were all of 11 people for the 6:30PM show on Friday at the Regal Cinemas in New Jersey. Yes, less than a dozen people for the 6:30PM show on opening night.

And you know what? In retrospect, all those who failed to turn up for Bhoothnath were infinitely smarter than the handful of people who did. They knew what us dumb folk did’nt – Bhoothnath is a movie to stay away from.

Yash Raj Films ugly disaster Tashan has collapsed at the U.S. box office in its second week (Please click here for Tashan opening weekend gross collection data.)

In the overall ranking at the U.S. box office, Tashan slipped to #40 for the second weekend from #24 for the opening weekend. Total gross for Tashan amounted to a measly $428,923.

Overall, Tashan has fared miserably at the U.S. box office compared to some recent Bollywood films.

In its review of Tashan, SearchIndia.com wrote:

Utterly bereft of anything worthwhile and an ugly amalgam of bad logic, rotten story, pitiful acting, ordinary photography and ear-damaging music, Tashan is a complete horror show, the likes of which have not been seen in Bollywood in a long, long time.

Take a look at how some recent Bollywood films fared in the second weekend Continue reading »

Jodhaa Akbar (Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai), Om Shanti Om (Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone) and even Race (starring a bunch of B-Grade Bollywood actors) did much better than U Me Aur Hum.

At the U.S. box office, the Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai combo has proven to be a lesser draw than the Shahrukh Khan-Deepika Padukone duo.

According to U.S. box office numbers, Jodhaa Akbar came in at No-19 with a weekend gross collection of $1.3 million although it was a four-day weekend because of the President’s Day holiday on Monday. UTV distributed Jodhaa Akbar.

When Om Shanti Om was released in November last year, it came in at No-11 with a weekend gross collection of $1.76 million. Eros Entertainment distributed Om Shanti Om.

Bollywood movie Dus Kahaniyan did not set the U.S. box afire but didn’t do that badly either considering it’s an offbeat Hindi movie.

Dus Kahaniyan rolled in at No-25 at the U.S. box office for the December 7-9, 2007 weekend with a gross of $176,726.

Released in 55 theaters in the U.S, Dus Kahaniyan had an average gross of $3,213.

When we watched Dus Kahaniyan at Regal E-Walk theater on W.42nd St (near Times Square) in New York City on Saturday afternoon, we counted a total of 14 people in the hall.
