By the way,are you watching Aliens?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Aliens? Yeah, when we are sober.

We watched Christopher Nolan’s Insomnia (Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Hilary Swank) earlier today.

    Lovely film.

Now, let’s get back to our Gin. ๐Ÿ˜‰

would you consider that nolan’s memento is his best movie and one of the intelligent movies?

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

      Hard to say.

Yesterday we watched Nolan’s Insomnia and liked that a lot.

Last week, we watched Dark Knight and enjoyed that too.

      • abhi220   July 13, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Dark Knight again? There are better movies which you haven’t seen.
DK is all about Joker(You may not agree). There are plenty of plot holes which I am sure you are aware of.
Take some risks and watch some movies that you haven’t. It may or may not spoil your day. Either way it wont be something which you already know. :D.
War – Pianist (You are missing one of the finest perfomances from your resume)
Classics – Its A Wonderful life
        Action – Leon
        Animation – Spirited Away
There are many which are equally good, but cant put all of them.
Insomnia is in my list for a long time now. Will watch it today.

        SearchIndia.com Responds:

        Seen Leon in your list.

And its ugly Bollywood version Bichoo (pre-SI blog) as well.

        • abhi220   July 13, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I still remember Bichoo. Rani Mukherjee was sheer horror in the movie.
I have huge expectations for inception.
Meanwhile can you suggest me some nice action flicks like a faceoff or leon?

          SearchIndia.com Responds:

          1. Just saw your e-mail. No comment of yours has been deleted. Perhaps, you were referring to this comment. Or maybe there’s some bug with the WordPress software.

          2. Feeling sick (something we ate)…can’t think straight on your request for ‘action’ recommendations.

Meanwhile, please take a look at the below links:

Gone through the 100 must watch way back when I was in India.
            Couldn’t find dvd’s for 24 movies.
Watched even the silent horror Nosferatu. I felt its very funny.
Forest Gump is a major miss from the list.
I would pick a bollywood or a malayalam movie for tomorrow.
We are being nostalgic these days.
Right now going to watch Insomnia.

            SearchIndia.com Responds:

Is Tere Bin Laden releasing in your country?

Not making it here, at least for now.

          • abhi220   July 14, 2010 at 2:29 am

            Finished watching insomnia. Nice movie.
I dont think Tere Bin Laden is releasing here.
Anyway I hope the next bollywood movie is watchable.
I made my friends watch predators last weekend. Now its their turn.
Even keeping friendships are hard these days.

            SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write: Anyway I hope the next bollywood movie is watchable.

            Dream on. Dream on.

but the technique of telling the story in reverse is very rare,so i think nolan’s best work is memento, but still because of heath ledger’s bloody acting his “the dark knight” stands high in nolan’s career

        SearchIndia.com Responds:

Nolan pushes the movie-making envelope, more in terms of technique.

In a purely conceptual sense, we expect Inception to be more similar to Memento and have less in common with Insomnia or Dark Knight.

        • 1012900   July 13, 2010 at 11:17 pm

Inception is releasing on July 16th in India. That’s just two more days. Can’t wait. I’ll be really happy if i could watch it this weekend.

Btw, Shutter Island has just been released here. I expected Inception to be released a few months later but glad that isn’t the case.

Do review both Shutter Island and Inception.

          SearchIndia.com Responds:

          Shutter Island is history here.

Insominia?? .. yes, I can tell that the gin is/was working..

Regarding your next reply, I thought Memento was faaaar better than Insomnia.. so faaar that they can’t be in the same sentence.. When I was drunk, I enjoyed Golmaal 2 too!

can’t really compare Memento with TDK.. because the Joker alone is worth watching several times, while Memento doesn’t have anything of that sort.. plot-wise, Memento was better than TDK.. much better.

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

      1. Fixed. Thanks.

      2. Memento’s appeal was more in terms of breaking away from the conventional narrative style of a movie.

      Sure, it was interesting.

But it was for the technique that Nolan received the kudos here and less for the drama in the movie.

Insomnia is a different kettle of fish. Here, within the framework of a regular narrative style, Nolan, supported ably by Al Pacino and to a lesser degree by Robin Williams and Hilary Swank, offers a gripping crime thriller. With greater drama than in Memento.

      3. Joker in Dark Knight is perhaps the greatest villain in the history of motion pictures. But Joker also enjoyed the advantage of great lines. And as we all know, it’s hard to separate an actor from his lines.

    • 1012900   July 13, 2010 at 11:56 am

Oh, I never knew Insomnia was directed by Christopher Nolan.

Watched it a couple of months back when it was shown on tv. Good film.

      SearchIndia.com Responds:

      Fine movie.

Nothing is below this clownish fraternity of thieves a.k.a Bollywood.

BTW, both Akshay and his defender Bachchan Sr have immensely benefited from theft (For example, Heyy Babyy in the case of the former and Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin in the case of the latter.
