When Abhishek Bachchan opens his mouth, you know where his foot’s gonna land, right? ;)

If there’s one horrible, beyond-redemption non-actor in Bollywood, it’s this bloke Abhishek Bachchan.

The 35-year-old son of Amitabh Bachchan is a cartoon and completely irrelevant. His films like Drona, Delhi 6 and Raavan are unwatchable horror-shows.

If he’s still getting roles, it’s because of the family name.

While Abhishek Bachchan may not provide much entertainment on screen, off-screen the fella is a grand joker each time he opens his mouth.

Here’s the buffoon at a recent event:

I think I am terribly overrated as an actor. They have given me more due than I deserve.
- Abhishek Bachchan

Ha ha ha ha. :-P

Folks, the words Abhishek, acting and rating can’t fit into the same sentence. For this bozo is no actor and nor does he have any rating!

Hey Abhishek, it’s better to keep your mouth shut and let people suspect you are a dodo rather than open your mouth and confirm it.

In just a few hours, India will play Australia at Ahmedabad in the crucial ICC 2011 World Cup cricket quarter-final.

The outcome of the match will decide whether India will make history or be history in this prestigious tournament.

While we’d, of course, love to see India advance to the next stage, the semi-finals, we’re not that optimistic or at best only cautiously optimistic about our team’s chances.

The collapse of India’s vaunted middle-order batting after a decent start for just a few dozen runs in the last two matches (India vs South Africa and the subsequent India vs West Indies game) has been a distressing spectacle and sure to strike a chord of anxiety in the hearts of the team’s most fervent supporters.

Our bowling seems far too languid to strike terror in the opposing batsmen.

In another cause for concern, our fielders don’t seem to be displaying the agility in grabbing the must-not-miss catches nor are they throwing themselves at the ball to prevent boundaries.

The Aussies, led by Ricky Ponting, are a formidable team and we’d be wise to see them as such. Not a team like West Indies that has turned into an embarrassment in this World Cup.

More than anything, the Indian team seems to lack the fierce determination that the Pakistani team displays in every match.

Bottom line, while our heart is betting on India the brain knows victory is no sure thing.

Firefox 4, which debuted yesterday, is going great guns.

The browser has already been downloaded 7.15 million times (as of 12:39PM ET on 3/22/2011) including, of course, by the nonpareil SI.

Faster, Better
The folks at Mozilla, the non-profit foundation that develops the open source browser, say Firefox 4 is two to six times faster than the previous releases.

Major enhancements to the JavaScript engine are said to make everything from startup time to page load speed to graphics and JavaScript performance “screaming fast” in Firefox 4.

In our tests, the browser did seem to load fast although we’d be skeptical of the “screaming fast” hyperbole.

Cool Look
The latest version of Firefox features a sleek, minimalist look that lets the web content take center stage.

There is an Orange tab on the top extreme left with drop-down box for the various options.

A convenient browser button on the right makes it easy to manage all your bookmarks and an asterisk inside the browser bar enables one-click bookmarking.

A Panorama feature lets you put your tabs into groups (we haven’t tried it yet).

For the full list of features in Firefox 4, click here.

Guys, if you haven’t downloaded Firefox 4 yet, click on the button below and we promise you even a Bollywood item number won’t give you as much joy over the long term as the Firefox upgrade. ;)

Firefox 4 is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux in over 80 languages. Continue reading »

Folks, here we are watching the quarter finals match between Pakistan and  West Indies played at Sher-e Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first.

But what a pitiful performance from the WI batsmen. They could just manage 112-10. A pitiful score.

When Pakistan came into bat, the openers Kamran Akmal (47) and Mohammed Hafeez (61) crushed the West Indies bowlers with deft stroke play that made their opposition look like rank amateurs

In the end end, Pakistan won by 10 wickets in less than 21 overs.

Mighty Shame
What a shame that the West Indies team, which once boasted of great batsmen like Vivian Richards, Clive Lloyd, Alvin Kallicharan, Derrick Murray and Brian Lara, fast bowlers like Andy Roberts and spinners like L.R.Gibbs, should now be reduced to the status of  jokers.

Final Scores

We love it.

Just love it.

One of our favorite Indian e-zines Tehelka has torn into Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M.Karunanidhi and his family.

That Tamil Nadu has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the extended Karunanidhi clan with its grasping finger thrusting into every pie – politics, business, newspapers, cable TV, newspapers, TV channels, movie production and distribution, state contracts and more – is no secret to the hapless denizens of the state.

But few articles have provided as good a summary as the Tehelka piece in providing both a historic perspective and insights into the current dystopian nightmare that has made life difficult for so many millions.

Titled How the K-Family Colonized a State – K Klutch Klan, the article is a blistering attack on the tactics adopted by Karuinanidhi, his sons M.K.Azhagiri and heir apparent M.K.Stalin and other members of the extended family such as the businessman Kalanidhi Maran and his politician brother Dayanidhi Maran to entrench their power and grow their clout and wealth:

Here’s an excerpt from the Tehelka piece:

[I]n the last decade, especially in the current term of the DMK government, members of the first family have graduated from legislators to ministers, party members to party strategists, and most visibly, local politicians to national-level netas. The rules that bind every other politician in TN do not apply to them. It is not a mere matter of privilege, but of the kind of personal and financial takeover of a party and a state that breaks the limits of politics, and becomes simply about absolute control. Today, every time a person in Tamil Nadu switches on his television, reads the paper, buys groceries, purchases land, or watches a film, he has in some way engaged with one of Karunanidhi’s relatives. The family is inescapable. And its influence does not even depend on whether or not it is in power.

Must read piece, folks. Continue reading »
