Go away, now.

We’re in a private meeting with an old acquaintance.

With whom, you ask?

Now children, ask yourself what day is it today.

Look at your calendar. September 15, right?

So, who else would we be in a private meeting with?

With Professor Robert Langdon, of course.

Like millions of readers worldwide, zombie-like we dutifully trooped over to the nearest bookstore and got our copy of popular author Dan Brown’s new book The Lost Symbol ($17.27 at Sam’s Club) this morning.

The New York Times reports that the 509-page book is flying off shelves.

No surprise here, considering Brown’s previous book The Da Vinci Code Continue reading »

The Pierre Hotel, a major NYC landmark, has reopened recently after a $100 million renovation by its Indian owners, Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces.

Located near Central Park at 5th Avenue and 61 St, the Pierre offers 189 redesigned residential-style guest rooms, including 49 suites.

Since we have more time than we know what to do with, we played around with booking a Grand 1-Bdrm Suite at the Pierre for September 24 for just one night.

Folks, the rack rate shown us was $13,772.30 (no typo here) for one night.

Cheap, na?

Wonder if that is the Presidential Tata Suite (contains handcrafted artworks by artisans from Paramparik Karigar)?

Or was it the less regal Rajput Suite (bed-frame hand-finished with centuries-old Zardosi embroidery)?

Few movies have gashed our soul so deeply as that freakshow Dasavatharam and may its perpetrator Kamal Haasan rot in hell for unleashing that ugly monstrosity upon us.

Now that the same weirdo is readying the release of his next film Unnaipol Oruvan, we thought it time to rewatch A Wednesday.

Unnaipol Oruvan – Borrowed Plot
Bereft of ideas, this veteran bozo of 150 plus films and hailed as one of the greatest film artistes of India couldn’t even think of a novel theme and rushed to Bollywood to borrow a story. At least, this time the fella didn’t profit from theft as he has on earlier occasions (remember Thenali?).

Folks, unless you’ve spent the last two years under some rock in Paramakudi you know that Unnaipol Oruvan is the Tamil remake of the Hindi film A Wednesday. Apparently, Unnaipol Oruvan is being released in Telugu too as Eenadu. Wonder why the clown forgot Malayalam, Kannada, Oriya and Bhojpuri?

A Wednesday – Classy
So setting aside our bulky Sunday New York Times, we switched on our TV yesterday and streamed A Wednesday via Netflix Instant Play.

Featuring Indian actors Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher in key roles, A Wednesday is one of those rare watchable movies to emerge out of the augean cesspool of Bollywood. Continue reading »

Lo, here comes the fourth edition of Amazing America.

* The highly compensated idiots at Harvard Management Company, which manages Harvard University’s endowment by investing in a variety of assets, have lost nearly $11 billion in the last fiscal year ended June 30.

In Fiscal Year 2009, almost every asset class did badly and the value of Harvard’s endowment shrunk to $26 billion from $36.9 billion on June 30, 2008.

Harvard Management Company said that the return on investments managed by it was -27.3% during Fiscal Year 2009.

Harvard Management Company CEO Jane Mendillo whined about the ‘extreme uncertainty in our economy and a level of volatility and dysfunction in many types of investment’ for the debacle. Bozo, the executives at Harvard Management Company are paid lavishly to navigate such turbulent storms. So, stop offering excuses and learn to do your job.

* Republican scumbag Congressman Joe Wilson is begging for donations in the same video in which he apologizes for calling President Obama a liar! Continue reading »

* Dharm – A few short hours ago, we watched this 2007 Hindi film.

And now we’re faced with this incredible dilemma – who do you credit for producing such a brilliant work of art.

Do you hail director Bhavna Talwar for delivering an Oscar-worthy classic in her first feature film.

Do you pay obeisance at the feet of Pankaj Kapur (as do most people in the film) for his extraordinary portrayal of a devout Hindu Brahmin priest Pandit Chaturvedi torn between his duties and his unwitting actions.

Do you think (a la Panditji) it’s all preordained, that the stars were in perfect alignment just to provide us immense pleasure on an otherwise dreary Thursday.

Well, who gives a f**k as to who deserves the most credit.

We’re not the kind to look a gift horse in the mouth and we’ll take our scanty blessings where we find ‘em. Continue reading »
